The place for fixies and other rides without gears
by PeteV » Wed Dec 01, 2010 8:42 am
Here's my daily ride. It's really nothing special and from what I've read on some of the forums I may well get flamed for owning a Mojo Bike! Have made a couple of changes to it. The headset that was on the bike when I got it was CRAP! some kind of expanding rubber ring rather than the cone bearing type, that was changed on the second day of ownership and I haven't looked back! The original wheels where just awful, so I chucked on a set of Alex G6000 I got off ebay for $80 inc postage. Am going to change the tyres over to some all black Zaffiro's I just bought. Am seriously considering having the frame powder coated matt black, mostly to hide the hideous welds! Oh yeah, the alloy platforms on there were just on for a test ride after fitting the wheels, usually have some SPD's clipped in.

Hey.....It's a bike.. you like it...all good. All that remains is to flip the rear wheel ,ditch the rear brake and get fixed. Is slumville ,Woodville?

Maybe on those forums. There's not so much of it here. PeteV wrote:Have made a couple of changes to it. I guess if they build to the price like they do, you've got to accept some shortcomings. Got any close-ups? I dont know much about Mojo's stuff. The colour looks a little nicer in these pics than the Mojo website suggests. Jim

Thats all the pics I've got for the moment, the colour is rather nice, I thought it would go well with the gold wheels but it does make a 'look at me' statement now! It's green and gold so I can just say I am patriotic. Kit wise, they probably are decent value for money. The cranks are sugino DX2, they rotate and are round, so no problems there. My only beef with the wheels is that they are VERY heavy, hence why i changed them. The brakes are Radius brand, dual pivot, work well so far. Apart from welds that look like they were done by a chimp having a seizure, the frame is square and has put up with my ample frame doing drops off gutters and the occassional bunny hop. Luckily I got mine less than advertised on the site because I knew a guy who bought this one but couldn't live without gears. As I said previously, the headsets are uber crap, but thats an easy part to change.

+1 I would say that having a cheaper frame is a good thing. Then you have no qualms with trying new things on it, such as DIY painting etc. Go nuts, have fun and most importantly keep pedalling!

The stem looks a tiny bit unusual with the rest.

It might be getting sprayed black shortly, going to trial fit another black one I have which is a bit shorter and steeper angle, then paint this one if I like the look.

Stem painted and flipped, new saddle and seatpost from my kids for Christmas. Have been riding it fixed 44/17 for two weeks now, loving it!

Nice work mate, your ride just keeps getting better and better It's actualy starting to look a bit tough, ever considered putting some cyclecross style tyres on it? I've done that before and besides making the bike look mean it also allows you to run wider tyres, lower pressures and puncture resistant tubes. All things that I personally value more than pure speed! By the way, those kids of yours have great taste

Hubcaps are overrated! I have a set of the centre caps that are held on by the wheelnuts but need to get around to fitting them!

Just some updates for those who give a rats... I got bored of the gold on green look so I cleaned up the braking surfaces and took to the rest of the rims with some black, much happier with the more simplistic look. Prior to an injury which will see me off the road for a little while, I switched back to single speed. Fixed is all well and good for most and I really wish I could get into it, but even at 68 GI my knees were killing me. My girlfriend wants to join me for weekend rides when I'm back on the bike so I am building her a bike. Luckily her mum had an ladies bike rusting away down the side of the house so I have a free mule to start on. Unfortunately I stripped it before getting any pics but it was a brand called 'Quest,' and was light metallic purple. She wants it fluro green.... Luckily lots of parts I have gathered over the years are able to replace the rusting bits. Hoping she will love it.

Still going strong! The Mojo just keeps on riding despite the low price tag and barrell loads of flack they cop! It even survived when I was hit by a car earlier this year. The girl's bike was finished shortly after I posted that pic and I have photos somewhere I will post later.
