The "Excuses" Thread

Postby Max » Tue Dec 14, 2010 7:53 pm

... AKA "Why I didn't commute today". This thread is all about confession, and confession is good for the soul, right? ;)

So, I'll kick it off. I didn't commute today because the snooze button was more attractive than getting out of bed. There, I said it. I'm lazy, I'm lazy, I'm lazy.

So let's hear it folks, what kept you off the bike today? Laziness? Sick kids? Needing to carry more than the bike would take? Just not in the mood? No reason is too trivial. Fess up!

:D

I will fess up in advance - on leave on Friday; just want a few weeks of; sleeping in / being lazy / getting fat / watching cricket / R & R..... plus a few other lame ones.

BUT

if anyone realy asks to go for a ride on holidays the reasons they will get are ; spending quality time with the family, not enough room in the van for the bike, and doing the annual preventive maintence. :?

Max - great post love it.

I don't have excuses because I commute virtually every day. I'm just putting this up as a subscription so I can see when you slackers phone in with a note from Mummy!

Actually I do have one. I'm catching the bus in tomorrow because the kids came into down for the lights so I ended up with two bikes at work so I'll take Kermit home tomorrow. How is that one?

This is my winter library of excuses for not riding; for your future reference:

1. My bike forum coach said altitude and humidity training would improve my VO2 max so I have been training on the rollers in front of the heater in the attic. But come spring, I blow you all away.
2. My masseuse said that my leg warmers were lowering my sperm count so I should stick to spinnervals this week.
3. My heart-rate-monitor told me to stay in bed this morning.
4. My garage door is stuck open, so I couldn’t find my bike in the thick fog we had this morning.
5. Just as I was rolling out the door this morning, an icicle fell from the guttering and punctured my tyre; who’d believe it eh!?
6. There was no power this morning so I was applying some lube to my chain by torch. I was struggling to hold the lube and the torch, and turn the pedals, when suddenly my tongue got caught in between the chain and the rear cassette. I tried calling my wife but she thought it was a possum. I couldn’t twist the bike around with out taking my tongue off so I couldn’t get upstairs to the bedroom. So I just waited until she woke up and we could call an ambulance. Other than that, I would have been there.
7. I accidentally mixed lithium and strontium batteries and when I turned on my head-light it exploded, blowing my handlebars off. So I couldn't make it this morning.
8. All the winter rain in Sydney caused a massive sink hole to form and swallow the apartment building I live in. So I couldn't make it to the ride.
9. The dog ate my nicks.
10. I put my bike too close to the heater as I was getting dressed this morning and the tyre melted. I didn't have a spare otherwise I would have totally been there [Dude.]

ft - they are great and very funny - you should write a book / do standup - soon you would have enough money for extra tyres or maybe the Madone.

I couldn't ride tonight as the wife is out at a friends and we can't leave the kids alone - lame I know but having a good laugh at your list has made it worth it. I wish I could use them but I have no other way to work short of breaking bones (this time last year - but it hurts too bad)

You're not welcome here!

I didn't ride today because it's run day with the tri club.
I didn't ride yesterday because it was a rest day...
I won't ride tomorrow ebcause the snooze button will be too tempting!

Actually, the blood bank bus is down the road today, which means it's here for two or three days...

I wont ride tomorrow because I'll intend on giving blood, which means my hemoglobin count will be low and riding will be dangerous (55km commute one way).
I'll also end up not giving blood so should have ridden...

How's that for lazy?

Work xmas dinner last night, went a little overboard with the vodka and beer. Feeling a little second hand this morning, was a struggle to even drive to work today! :?

It is always a struggle for me to drive to work. Work is my excuse for riding to work
I did not commute to work today because I did not go to work today. Working from home :D

This occurs more frequently than most people realise. Sydney is built on top of a huge coal pit that's being constantly mined and sucked out by big turbines.

Sydney is going to be like this in the next couple of years or so....

Didn't work today so didn't commute. :(
Didn't ride today at all. I did walk all over the Melbs CBD at least twice, carrying a big bag. Bl00dy Xmas shopping.

No ride for me today. I'm working from home tomorrow and possibly next week, so today's the day I bring all my clothes etc home. Plus I need to empty all my stuff out of the work fridge. It's a shame, because today looks like an absolutely gorgeous day.
