Potential of HydrogenHi All,
Was doing a spot of shopping on the weekend and walked past this new shop in the Gallery's Victoria building in Sydney called Potential of Hydrogen. It had quite a few bikes on display with a bit of clothing associated with it as well. All the bikes were fixed gears, was not sure if it was a clothing store selling bikes or a bike store selling clothing. They seem to be tapping into/focusing on the fixed gear clothing/bike trend that Industrie were doing last year. I had a bit of a look at the bikes and they seemed ok, much better than the fixies Industrie were handing out. Had a chat to the manager - the bikes are all produced over in asia, shipped here and assembled. Has anyone has checked them out or know more about them? I'm definitely not talking myself into an N+1 here, more for the trendy mates who are looking for that sort of thing. ![]() n=8 (2011 road, 2004 road, 2010 track, 2009 foldup, 1990 hybrid, 1992 indoor trainer, 2007 road now a rental, 1970's step through)
Re: Potential of HydrogenApparently there's a couple of early prototypes, one with a threadless steerer, and one with threaded. Which one are they selling?
Here's where they come from: http://www.sableandargent.com.au/blog/2 ... -ph-bikes/ Not real speed-oriented. http://www.fixed.org.au/forums/t14549/ Jim MY RIDES: My Velospace Profile
Re: Potential of HydrogenWebsite below - $600 a pop, pretty competitive. Without actually road testing one, id say bang for buck, they seem good value.
Jim, Mixte looks threaded, 'trick' frame and 'race' frame look threadless. http://www.potentialofhydrogen.com.au ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: Potential of HydrogenRighto. I thought I'd seen a pic of the 'race' model someplace with a threaded fork on it.
Did they really have to put the words fixie in ' ' ? For a bike that declares 'Looks are important', this is a bit off target: ![]() But they do also say 'Performance is King', and those forks would be sturdy for bombing kerbs and bunnyhops out the wazoo. Jim MY RIDES: My Velospace Profile
Re: Potential of HydrogenIm with you Jim, those forks are but 'effin ugly.
Probably ok to go on the 'trick' frame, but for the pH01, they shouldve used a nicer fork. i did enquire about buying the frame only, but got a reply saying they only sell it complete. shame, would make a fun ride.
Re: Potential of HydrogenOnly 2 sizes as well S and M, so no good for us tall fellas(6 ft plus)

Mistress = Pinarello Opera, Ultegra SL Mistress #2 = Drag Bluebird
Re: Potential of HydrogenYou may know already but they sell them at most glue stores. I think the objective is to signify the fixie trend then get customers to buy their clothes along with a $600 bike. I may be wrong but it just sounds like they are using fixies as ways to get people to buy stuff.
Re: Potential of HydrogenThe model with the bendy seat tube is a copy of a well known local bike identity's concept, on the cheap. The ultra short wheelbase and material choice may cause issues for poorly informed PoH buyers.

Re: Potential of Hydrogen
... because most people really want a bike that's been assembled by a know-it-all PFY. I wonder how many rounded bolts these bikes come with? volutamus scandemus

I'm not getting you...

Re: Potential of Hydrogen
No, No... I get that bit but I don't get why people would want a bike assembled by a Youngster rather then a Mr. Tullio, handcrafted, campangolo.
Re: Potential of HydrogenAaahh. Got you. Methinks RK forgot to put this

They don't. I was being sarcastic. I dunno what that thing is MB, but if it represents sarcasm I should have it tattooed to my forehead. volutamus scandemus
Re: Potential of Hydrogen
Spot on RK. Some genius, no doubt appalled at the lack of a sarcasm emoticon came up with this as a way to tell the world what he really meant. It's called a sarcmarkTM T shirts are available practically nowhere. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Potential of HydrogenHey guys, im very new here but recently got the ph06 black trick bike from potential of hydrogen
![]() admittedly there are some cheaper components on this bike and ive already changed the handlebars and pedals, I really enjoy the fatness of the tyres as I can thrash it off gutters etc just like my old mongoose BMX It's a ton of fun to ride but wouldn't really use it as my daily commuter!
Re: Potential of HydrogenI just saw these bikes going for $299 at an industrie store.
Re: Potential of Hydrogen
industrie special or ph ? aren't they two different brands?
Re: Potential of Hydrogen
Both cheap crap. There is reason they are cheap. For 499 you can pic,up a fuji classic track on clearance. Hit up bike exchange.
Re: Potential of HydrogenI wouldn't trust the welds on an industrie frame to support the weight of a hanging pot plant.
