http://bikeweek.bq.org.au/whats-on/cc/
Rego's open up Jan 10th
For those of us who aren't up to the challenge of Mt Coot-tha there's the Great Brisbane Bike Ride, with a 30k or 45 k option....
http://bikeweek.bq.org.au/whats-on/gbbr/
Both options are going through the Clem 7 tunnels....

I haven't done a run up Mt Gravatt for weeks, so there's no way I'm up for an attempt on Mt Coot-tha, maybe something to aim for in 2012.

Have a go! Whatever time you do this year you will be able to vastly improve on next year!marinmomma wrote:For the climb?

Last year there were plenty (including myself) pushing their bike up the hill. This year I'm determined to ride up. I'll be training for it.marinmomma wrote:For the climb?

I have to agree - last year I found the tunnel very hot and full of fumes (and I don't think it had been opened to the public yet) I would assume that its going to be 10x worse this time.Drunkmonkey wrote:I would much prefer it if the ride didn't go through the Clem7

But the descent part of it still was lots of fun. I was imagining myself piloting a Matrix hovercrafttopaz wrote:I have to agree - last year I found the tunnel very hot and full of fumes (and I don't think it had been opened to the public yet) I would assume that its going to be 10x worse this time.Drunkmonkey wrote:I would much prefer it if the ride didn't go through the Clem7

I sure did! It's one hell of a hill but I made it up and only stopped once briefly.mrjones wrote:Comedian , did you have a go at it this morning?

We need to talk about doing this often..Ie once a week at least!
The best thing about it was it's only 15 minutes to work afterwards.

yes Coot-tha is more than a 2.8km climb - only 2.8km is timed for the challenge at 9%.The Womble wrote:Just did a phone google. Its more than 2.8km surely. Still cant find climb elevation

I disagree. Climbing out of the Clem7 was a slog, but nothing compared to Coot-tha.Drunkmonkey wrote:Same thing will happen when you start to climb out of the Clem 7.......mrjones wrote:hahaha it's pretty brutal that's for sure! last time i went up there i was breathing so hard i saw in to the future!

Its not the climb I was referring to - its the lack of oxygen.Zynster wrote:I disagree. anyone doing the 100 k Mt Cootha Challenge this year and interested on going on a practice rides with me, I have never ridden it before and would enjoy going with someone my first time, I'm not very fast yet really enjoy cycling.
my average riding speed is around 23 km/h, this on quite flat roads.

Good on you Alex! I'll let you know when I'm going up there for a spin once I work out how to get there with all the bikeway damage.AlexPossingham wrote:Hey everyone,
