A short warning, when everyone should be sleeping, a forum update is planned.
On Friday morning everything should be running smoothly.

Everything looks good.

2500 members deleted, those who have never properly activated their accounts plus all who had no posts and have not logged in since December 2009.

If you notice any issues, please let me know.

Problems? I haven't been able to access the forum for the last little bit. Does that count?

Just curious, how many were deleted due to their absence for 12 months? Just wondering if that's a bit short?

Forum Update Completed - Thursday Night 06.01.2010

Postby AUbicycles » Fri Jan 07, 2011 6:08 am

approximate 1400 registered but never logged in and 1100 register but not logged in since 2009, in both cases users with no posts. Obviously some spammers in there and members who provided incorrect emails when signing up.

Regarding errors, shortly after my post there should't be any errors, best to provide details in the 'report errors / downtime' thread in forum feedback so I can follow up.

Cheers
Christopher

That's a pretty good cull. How many members do you count as active then?

Hi

I don't know if this is possible but in the future any chance of doing these updates a bit later at night ... you know there are people still up in the West at 9:00 PM and believe it or not we are part of Australia :)

When you delete a user who has made posts/topics in the past - do the posts/topics get preserved?

Just wondering if someone who contributed to the forum previous to Dec 2009, but for some reason left - did their posts also get deleted? We may possibly risk losing knowledge if that were to be the case...

just a thought...

I thought the Western miners have already dug a north to south canal along the state border?

Only users with no posts have been deleted is my understanding...

That's right, no posts are deleted.

Current member base is displayed on the entry page at the bottom on the stats.

Timing is always a challenge and I have been planning it for some time - after the test run and all safety mechanisms were in place I had to take action so it will always be a small inconvenience. 3 hours later simply couldn't fit in, first would have been much later that would have got the aest 9 o'clock crowd.

The updates don't come that often though.

8,827. So previous total would have been 10K+ with 20% who signed up never having posted. That's a pretty high lurk count! 1 in 5 is a lurker *looks around surreptitiously* Image

1099 who hadn't logged in since 2009 and 2400 who had registered though never logged in, so no lurkers.

Though.. lurkers are usually those who don't signed up.

That's bad news - means that the problem is still there.
Here is the thread discussing it and the work-around.

This problem moves up as a priority in my task list.

Is the code display based on Flash? If so, then Safari on the iPhone won't handle it. So that may be the reason why a desktop browser is needed.
