Ah yes, stolen lights, that has happend to me before... (from my pup bike... outside the pub...)
And in fairnes, makes the bike rider in that case a bit of a victim as well.

Let's not get ultra nitpicky here...

For everything in life there is always something you could have done to prevent it , in hindsight...
Being a victim of a crime is not a crime itself.

Unless of course you use that as an excuse to commit a crime

Let's make something clear.

There are two types of cyclists out there, the one that doesn't care, and has no lights and no intentions to use them.
These are the worst., they are repeat offenders.

And the ones that do care and do have intentions of using them.
Theses can be caught out by a defected light or theft, something that is not always being anticipated.
When this happnes , the don't immediatetly fall into the first category, they are stil resposbile riders , but with a bit of bad luck.
It wil happen once in a blue moon, these things happen.

No. First of all I would make sure to never be caught out in that situation (I always have a spare set of lights on me and I remove the main par when I lock up).

Secondly, if I was caught out I would either walk the bike home if it was less than 1000m, or if it was further I would call a taxi and chuck the bike in and go home. Not worth the risk of being injured/killed.

Very easy to insist on the moral high ground isn't it. But I don't think that riding at 10kph is any more risky than walking. YMMV though. Anyway I'm done.

Well...you know how my old lights broke? I've managed to get a helmet blinkie on, my old .5w headlight on and a rear light that also has LED's out to the side. Good enough...still waiting on the solar lights from China though Forgot to mention, also have two led valve caps here that are bright green Work a treat!
