Choosing TT over socksOne of my TT over socks has been missing for 6 months, so its doing a good job of hiding
Looking at PBK, my options seem to be in 2 broad categories; 1. silicon covered lycra 2. lycra Looking at the available options on PBK, I can't really see whether there is any performance difference? Is there any? If so I will put a preference to performance, if not I'll buy on price and style http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?cat=Mens%20Aero%20Overshoes I've got stuff on ebay
Re: Choosing TT over socksWhats TT stand for ? I guess it might be a shoe cover of sorts. Whats their benefit

Re: Choosing TT over socksWouldn't those silicon covered covers be hotter as they won't aerate?

Re: Choosing TT over socks
TT is usually short for Time Trial. Shoe covers are supposed to even out the surface of the shoe for better aerodynamics + tear drop helmet & full length skin suit of course. As for the lost sock look here for the ultimate answer--------------------> viewtopic.php?f=37&t=36282 Gas propulsion.......it's natural don't fight it.
Re: Choosing TT over socks
Yes However in a TT you are sitting in a decent amount of wind I've got stuff on ebay

Re: Choosing TT over socks
Really interesting site, I can see myself buying a few things. Still looking for an answer on which type of TT oversocks to go for I've got stuff on ebay
Re: Choosing TT over socksJust the thin lycra ones. Downside to them they are quite fragile and get holes in them easily if you walk around with them on. The silicone ones might be a winter/weatherproof thing?
Re: Choosing TT over sockshttp://www.wiggle.co.uk/pro-aerofoil-road-overshoes/
I have a pair of these, their pretty rad. Had no troubles getting hot but i haven't worn them that many times. lycra = more cooler plasticy stuff on lycra = more aero I guess it's about how long your TT's are and if you live in a hot place or a cool place Romper! now stiff yet vertically compliant
Re: Choosing TT over socksMy TT's are 19 or 38k hilly. So not particularly long. Perhaps I should buy 2 pairs - The silicon covered ones and some plain lycra ones

Choosing TT over socksI've got a few sets of Lycra ones. They wear out pretty quick when you walk in them. There is probably not much difference in the aero benefit between either type at our more pedestrian, non pro speeds.
Re: Choosing TT over socks
Using lycra booties over shoes is not always more aerodynamic than not wearing them. One should do their aero testing...
Re: Choosing TT over socks
Any explanation for this? Is it shoe design dependent? Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple
Re: Choosing TT over socksI'm thinking of getting the same ones, probably from PBK and make up enough order to beat the postage I've got stuff on ebay
Re: Choosing TT over socks
Yes, I was privileged to learn the result of some aero testing which showed that it's not always better to wear booties. It can be but not always. I cannot however reveal source or data. IOW, perform your own testing to know you are making sound decisions regarding aerodynamic improvements.
Re: Choosing TT over socksLike if you have a pair of these

Re: Choosing TT over socks
The figures I see quoted are 3 - 5w saving. It would be difficult to personally feel that, so one would need to rely on data provided elsewhere. I've got stuff on ebay
Re: Choosing TT over socksI have had all brands now and just have some plain lycra ones at the moment that have.....
No zipper, As a veteran of over 100 TT's If you get a type with a zipper, one day, yes I have seen it happen to lots of people is that the zipper works unzipped during a tt and the the cover becomes no areo, worse that your shoe I use some light lycra ones that I strech the hem every time getting them on, but the never come loose. They get holes in them quick tho. The latex ones look super quick, but get really hot Regards Troy Rota-M Cycling Team, Board Member of ATTA, Member of CWA, WCMCC & PDCC

Re: Choosing TT over socksSo perhaps I just get these http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=c9555
- cheap - no zip - match my shoes Overshoes are on clearance at PBK at the moment, plenty to choose from http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?cat=Clearance%20Overshoes%20and%20Socks I've got stuff on ebay
Re: Choosing TT over socks
They do have zips actually. PBK only have the one (small) size available.
Not sure if the Gore ones are TT ones or thicker cold weather ones? I think too the actual sock versions are overpriced, I mean it's just a sock, they are only ~$10pr normally, how do they justify charging $30 to cut holes in them?
Re: Choosing TT over socksThanks Ross, which ones do you think I should go for?

Re: Choosing TT over socks
maybe as a test try lycra on one leg and silicon on the other. see which direction you end up going !!
