I wondered the same thing and sent an email. They are posting stuff out as of last Saturday. Some of the guys I ride with mention it is pretty low key, no bib numbers etc.

Parking, start, times and route info is on their website so not fussed if I don't receive anything.

Cheers

They did promise if I entered before last week that I'd get a riders kit... whatever that is. :)

What would be the lowest average to be able to do the 160ks?

Hiya

It doesn't really matter, go at whatever pace you can and enjoy the ride. There isn't really a cutoff time as you will find they will just pack up and go (just make sure you know the route in case marshals etc knock off). Some of the members of the group I am with found this out last year and did the ride in a bout 7-7.5 hrs or so. Having fun is the main thing and don't be put off trying to make a time.

Besides I'll join you,Ii am in the Crouching Tigers outfit :)

cheers

I haven't done the event. But I would suspect that you'd want to be able to average at least 30 in a small group on flatish terrain over 100k type distances. Anyone else help with this? :)

I seriously doubt that it is necessary to average 30.
The 160 km route is ideal for a plodder to do in 8-9 hours including rest stops

But you will be dismayed to see the speed demons race away from the start.
If you spend too long out on the road you might find the afternoon heat is cruel and motorists get worse also
And everything will be over, packed up and gone home at the finish. :(

Sorry. I was trying to indicate that you should be capable of that speed as a guide, rather than that's what you need to achieve.

Good info though. :)

Weather still looking pretty good, SE breeze and a max of 28.
If I decide to stay with the group I might be one of the plodders. at least I'll get to admire the countryside :D

Not long now!
Just had a text from my ride partner - i broke him on a 70km ride on sunday  (to be fair he wasn't feeling 100%)- and has had to pull out :(

So i'll be looking for someone to wheelsuck :D or someone to ride with. I'm hoping for a time of 4 hrs.

Cheers

This wet weather has hampered my preparation planned for this week...not looking good for the morning to get some riding done either

Nick off wet season!

I agree about the rain. Enough is Enough. After Mt Cootha in the rain, I can cope with a couple of showers, but I hope not much more than that.

Yes it is teasing you.

IF it is a nice day on sunday can i suggest a short detour at Harrisville.
If you go up Dunns Rd (off the main Rd at first pub) there is a winery that is very picturesque. (Normanby Wines)
Good place to relax if you are ahead of schedule and need a glass of red wine.
Donot go up to the winery if it is raining caus the road is unsealed (but only about 1-2 km)
Or if you have mudguards should be OK

There are no hills on the ride - just places where the strong winds make the trees lean over as they grow

Does anyone know if they provide sunscreen at the rest stops?

I agree, Anniegray, the last report that I heard was the possibility of a few showers near the coast....and Ipswich isn't near the coast!

I don't recall seeing any at the rest stops last year.
