alright i bought a new pair of shoes a few weeks ago and now im getting a really painful foot right up the very outside of the sole of my foot on both feet. the new shoes are DMT fusion (carbon sole) and i tried on many pairs of shoes in the shop and they fit just about perfectly toe box has ample room width seems just about perfect. there noticeably stiffer than the shimano shoes i had previously (plastic sole) which gave me really bad numbness and hotspots over the cleat. although the shimanos weren't perfect the pain wasnt stabbing and unbearable. with the DMT's all the hot spot over the cleat and numbness is gone but i get an absolute unbearable stabbing pain on the very outer of both my feet this occurs after maybe 10km or maybe a bit further and gets worse the further i ride. just ben out for a 60 km ride and i had the legs to keep going but my feet were just killing me and i almost felt like i couldnt ride anymore. so a few questions has anyone else experienced this? any suggestions that may help? also is there a nerve or vain that runs along the outer edge of the foot that may be getting compressed? also the pain goes away after about 2 minutes with the shoes off. ive played with the cleat position a bit and today my left foot lasted quite a bit longer then my right foot before it got any pain in it. i have also found that if i sort of roll m foot outward in the shoe it hurts a bit less but its hard to hold this position for a long time. would them wedges that go under the cleat be of any help do you think.
thanks for any help
harry

given the choice, would you rather share the roads with a woman texting in her four-wheel-drive, a manic truckie, a boy in a grey-import turbo, or a cyclist?

do thicker socks make a difference ? if som maybe try a new inner sole with a bit more cushioning. rigid carbon soles can be a bit harsh on our feet at times

yeah i was thinking i might try a second insole and see if that makes a difference. i moved the cleats as far back and as far toward the inside edge of the shoe they'll go and just went for a ride and its helped a fair bit but toward the end it was still hurting and it was only a quick 15km or so so i dunno i guess ill try a second or thicker insole next. I'm gonna go back to the shop with them anyway as one of the wire ratchet retainer things is playing up when it gets a bit of tension on it so ill see what they suggest aswell

I was going to suggest different inners, but that's about the extent of my guesswork, sorry.
What size are they? Looking to sell?

ahhh mr rusty i think we've had this conversation before im a 48 which from all the shoes you were selling a while ago would be slightly too big. however i put the big fat gel insoles in them out of a pair of dads basketball boots and although they weigh a ton they seem to have done the trick and nicely dull any rd vibrations aswell. i just went on the same 15 or so km ride i did yesterday and they were much better however well have to wait till i go on a bigger ride to get a proper idea. so now the quest is to find some good thick gel insoles that arent too heavy (or thick high density foam for that matter) so i was looking at those specialized foot beds. does anyone have set and if so are they very thick and spongy especially along the outer edge. also are they foam or gel.
cheers harry
(oh rusty you can have the shoes for 400 if you want )

glad you've found a partial solution. [seriously] most of my sore foot issues came from too narrow shoes cramping across the ball of the foot.

on closer inspection i THINK ive got a weird lumpy bit that sticks out the side of both my feet (not sure if this is normal) but i think these lump bits are slightly wider than the carbon sole and are resting on the sharp up turned edge. like they sort of push the upper of the shoe outward and then sit on the carbon sole. i dont think that makes any sense but i dont have a clue how to explain it otherwise. but yeah the gelness seems to have fixed it so i am quite happy

I like the Specialized shoes. I used to have tons of foot problems, such as morton's nueroma (sp?). I have not had problems since i switched.
