STOLEN: 2008 Giant Yukon - Rhodes, Sydney
Postby jimi_d » Wed Apr 20, 2011 1:30 pm
Bike Details:
Make and Model: 2008 Giant, Yukon MTB - 18 inch frame, 26 inch wheels
Frame and wheel colour: Black, Giant written in silver
Distinguishing features: Had Maxxis road tyres instead of dirt tyres, Also had white LED on front and red LED at rear, small tear on seat
When and Where: About 6.30pm on Monday 18th April 2011, I locked and secured my bike to a bike rack outside the front entrance to the Rhodes Shopping Centre, located at 1 Rider Boulevard, Rhodes. I returned to the bike rack 2 hours later, around 8.30pm to discover my bike missing and my helmet lying on the ground. I had attached my helmet through the cable lock.
The theft has been reported to the Police. I also made enquiries with Centre management regarding CCTV and the result of that was there was nothing captured due to it being dark and also that no camera actually covers the area of the bike rack. I really hope to get it back as I use it to get to and from work. I had owned the bike since new when I bought it in late 2007. Any info please contact me through this means or phone 0415954695.

That sux Jimi. I have always wondered how effective RSC's CCTV is. Good luck recovering it.

im sorry, but no matter how strong your lock is, if someone wants your bike they will take it.
this is the sole reason why i do not lock my bike up anywhere for any period of time.
if i have to go into the shop i take my bike with me and store it next to a lovely girl/guy at the checkout who watches it for me if i ask nicely.
they are just too easy to take.

I gotta say now after watching some youtube videos, that my bike would have been easy to steal. Only had the one cable lock on it. No problem for good bolt cutters. Really should have had two different lock systems securing it.

That sucks mate. I live across the road from those shops. I will check the bicycles tomorrow morning in my building and see if any Yukons are hanging around. Good luck.

So no footage of someone with a backpack walking past another camera with your bike? I wouldn't let it rest at that - you're being fobbed off by a lazy-assed security slob.

FOUND!!!
Police stopped a junkie in the city on sunday 24/4 for no helmet, they did a check on the bike and found it was stolen. Unable to prove he stole it so he was charged with posession of stolen goods. And I now have my bike back, in less than 2 weeks from when it was stolen. Thanks to the good work and thoroughness of the police in charge. The system works, my faith is renewed.

The Police actually identified it on the other side of town? Impressive and great news for you! Do you know on what basis it was identified? Were you able to supply a SN?

Ugh what a tale. Couldn't he come up with a better story? Anyway, hope that junkie gets rehabilitated. Too many effed up junkies around the city - not healthy.
