I had a good couple of rides over Easter, did a recee course of the Oatlands race, then rode down to Bruny on Saturday, around Bruny on Sunday, and did Commando route yesterday.

Great weather shame I missed out on the Dome rides....but there is always this Sat

Better watch you Rob........all this training! :D
Dome did commando course in reverse yesterday. I am told it was reverse. Anti clockwise makes more sense to me.

my commando....only cause i dont really want to go the gravel
hobart, bonnet, blackmans bay, tinder box - chuck a u turn once you hit the gravel, left at blackmans bay to howden, margate, longley, hobart

i have heard that the REAL COMMANDO is the same but you just go on the gravel from tinderbox to howden
when do we stop for coffee???

i have just realised that i may have opened up a can of worms re The Comando :(

there 3 Cammoand myths

1 - clock wise or anti clock wise

2 - route

3 - where did the name come from

these things cannot be debated as there are no answers and that is why there is sooo much prestige :)

Perhaps it should be renamed, to accurately reflect the position.

I suggest it be known as "The Dogs Breakfast"

As far as I know the commando loop is up strickland to nieka, you can then go via leslie rd and back down to kingston or continue via longley and margate. What you have mentioned is the tinderbox loop.

Also I disagree with the best coffee in Hobart. But that is my preference.

come for a DOME ride and you will change your mind about the coffee....as it includes the club house and food :)

The clockwise Commando is harder going from the city, over Bonnett, Mount Royal Rd, Blackmans Bay, Howden, Margate, Sandfly, Longley, Neika, Strickland, city. Thats the hardest way to ride with a 15km climb from Margate to Neika.

Of course if your truly a Commando you would also include Mt Wellington...

Many a good idea has come out of a ridiculous discussion. This has reminded me of a Midnight Century ride I did with Audax.

What about a Midnight ride over the REAL Commando course, including Mt Wellington?

Would we be back too early for a Dome breakfast?

You forgot the big and pretty near invisible dog standing stock still in the middle of the road that we almost hit... Which then decided to have a bit of a woof...
