Timeframe? Definitely less than 12 months, probably less than 6.

My biggest problem is I live nowhere near anyone who sells them

Hi I am another bent owner been making them on &off since about 1990 , latest one I built in 05 ,it a short wheelbase 2 wheeler ,above seat steering . The other one I have is a fully enclosed 3 wheeler which I built between 94-96 for an attempt on the AUS hpv land speed record but by the time I fi nally got it built was too cactus to be able to have a serious go . The next fully enclosed one I make will be a 2 wheeler speed bike . I will post soe pics when I work out how to do it .

Been a bent (GT3 from GS) for over 18 months and 9000km. Love the bent ride. Ride mainly in South Gippsland Victoria.

Hi Leigh ,yep thats me ,I have not done any recumbent stuff for a couple of years now as I have got into MTB , bought myself 2 Mountain Cycle San Andreas fs bikes last year so better ride them &get my monies worth !cleaned me out they did ! but as I ride I am starting to plan the next recumbent so all is not lost .John.

I've yet to get near enough to ride one so far ....
Bob & I have been talking and planing a fast one but seem to get stuck on which one or way to go.
Have floted front wheel drive as an idea but nether of us has tried one...

We should get together one day and yack it all out

Leigh.. sure is some good stuff on the net , has made this recumbent caper much easier , when I first started on them it was lunatic fringe stuff ,which was ok by me but there did not seem to be much info around so you were flying blind really . Most record type machines these days are using front wheel drive , I made a fwd bent before the one I have now but did not like it , any uphill stuff if at all loose was wheelspin problems so I think for road use rwd is the go . Check out, critical power streamliner HPV. should come up with Google search , I am too new here to be able to post the link , plenty of inspiration on that site John.

Any trike riders out there who can tell me the pros and cons of tadpole versus standard trikes?

I don't know how much Flying Furniture is charging for that little red wagon, but I know Craig's ones are bloody cheap. When I last rode with him, he was on a new trike with rear suspension and a 26" rear wheel. That didn't look like a harsh ride to me .....

Tadpoles are more stable at high speed than frogs. You have two front wheels for steering and braking. And they corner like the blazes - you should see these guys take corners. You'd think they were teenagers again!

Tadpoles can suffer from brake steering, although that's quite rare with the modern designs. They can also scrub tyres quickly if the alignment is out of whack. Carrying two different spare tubes would annoy me too.

All trike designs have a little higher rolling resistance than bikes (at a rough guess, I'd say 50% more ... ). Avoiding potholes gets tricky too.

Ooh, look - I'm number 10! I thought there was only about 5 of us, so I'm happy to see so many.

(Edit: Here's that trike with rear suspension. $2400 - not too bad. His other trikes start at $1570. I get no consideration and have no other affiliation with Craig, other than the fact I ride with him as a member of the WAHPV group.)

I'm interested, but likely wont be getting one in a hurry. Aside from the cost, and getting it past the Minister for Finance, I don't ride enough to make it worthwhile for me. I'd love to give one a go though...*hint hint*

I think we'll only take over the world when everything is going downhill. Everyone reckons these have the advantage on the downhills .... (Blessed are the sleek, for they shall inherit the world.)
