Hi. If you are interested in the Noosa ride it is this Sunday May 22.
It returns to Noosa, and there are 2 distance options.
Better sign up quick online, google USM + noosa winter century and you will get website.
Could be good.
Steve.

Wondering if I should be doing it?
I'll be in caloundra on saturday and can take the bike up with me .... never done the 160km but a heap of 100k ones like gold coast, ipswich, mount cootha, big gap doing 100 and 160 I think..... the most I did was 120k once
any thoughts and suggestions?

Check the website but i think you can register at the lions Park in Noosa on saturday arvo or (gulp) at 5 am on the morning of the ride !
My first Noosa ride so not sure what to expect.

I think the 160 course looks more interesting, heads north to Kin Kin then south back to Eumundi and a loop towards Kenilworth.
but i am less enthused about then going all the way south to Bli Bli then back to Noosa via coolum.
I s'pose you can cut it short and return direct to Noosa from Pomona or perhaps Eumundi.
Or just do the 100km, starts later and looks very flat.
Your inclinations will probably depend on the weather, suggest you take that bike with you and see how you feel Saturday arvo.

Well I'm a little worried about the rain. As long as it's showers I'll still do the 160. If it's set in and heavy I'll kick back in the unit. Sure I'll loose my 80 bucks but riding 160k in a torrential downpour...even I'm not that crazy.

Am keen for the 160 but indeed not fun in the rain ... Let the weather decide

They are forecasting possible showers and 17° to 23° temps so even if it does shower a bit it will be Ok riding.
It pored rain last night and now has cleared so this mornings ride was great. Just hope it holds until at least late Sunday afternoon.

For those riding on Sunday - enjoy.

Maybe we should stick BNA on our buts so we can say G'day to each other.

They forecasted rain for today and it's been a great day for riding. Here is hoping.

You could park in the Coles carpark in Lanyana Way, Noosa Junction and then ride over Noosa Hill to the start. it's only about 2 k away

Crikeys that was fun, until the fatigue hit at marcoola. Hope everyone else had a good time. The traffic marshals no doubt spent hours working in trying conditions. Thanks to all involved.

Noosa to Brisbane ride?

Postby Comedian » Sun May 22, 2011 7:01 pm

I had a great time. We had some early mechanical problems (other people) which put us behind early but we made a good recovery and came in at 1220. That was ok with nearly an hour of stop time. :)

It was not nearly as hard as the Ipswich run.

Awesome work all.

Will keep this in mind for next year! I'm keen to do an Imperial Century, but not the Ipswich one after looking at Mr MM's Garmin stats

Has anyone got a Garmin link for this???

Bo garmin link but I can offer you this. This was much easier than the ipswich 160. The hills were far fewer and less demoralizing!

Only downside I could see was no food. The only food they had was a bun at the last stop. All the rest was gone.

In Eumundi they had set up a re-hydration canteen for us.
The staff topped up my waterbottle and pointed me to the end of the table where there was fruit buns.
By the time I put my water bottle down they were all gone.

But there are plenty of places to get food in Eumundi.
The bakery across the road was full of cyclists and the coffee and ambience was great.
That was after 94 km.

Next time I will stop for food and rest at Bli Bli. It was bit of a struggle in the heat after Bli Bli :(
Or get a lift back to Noosa from there !

I really enjoyed my ride. When I woke at midnight and it was still raining I wasn't really happy but to wake at 4.30 am to a clear sky and no wind, I was very happy.

The only down side I had to the ride was a lady about 100 metres ahead of me was clipped by a car just after Bli Bli. She was lucky and will only be a bit sore. The old guy who clipped her stopped immediately and was extremely apologetic.

I was surprised at the number of people who had punctures.

I thought the whole day was very well run and I guess I was early enough through the drink stations that there was still plenty of food left. The gels at the Marcoola stop meant that I blasted my way home and beat my wife to the finish line. She was coming in to watch me finish and I had miscalculated the time it was going to take me. I had planned on a 6 hour ride but I beat it by 26 minutes.

Well, that's the 160k done, what's next?

I might have to do more hill work in the next 12 months and see how I go against the OFIL's. I change age groups on Wednesday when I turn 60 so the 50-59 age group is done and dusted. Roll on the 60 - 69 group. From what I've seen around here they are an even tougher bunch and have been riding for years, not 12 months.

You mean 'other person' no? :( Thanks for stopping anyway.

Did you tell them about the kittens, you know, the ones you gave birth to when that first tube deflated itself?

Funny how I needed a comfort stop afterwards

I actually think we did a sterling job to catch some packs by the first stop. :)
