TWE wheels

Postby booge » Fri Feb 18, 2011 12:15 pm

Has anyone bought some TWE wheels? I'm looking at road wheels similar in weight to Ksyrium Elites (1500g). Any opinions and roundabout price paid would be good. I put in an online enquiry but didn't hear back from TWE.

He's pretty busy. Better off calling him between 10-4.

i've got a set of twe's as does a lot of forumites here. Awesome wheels. Price starts from $600 i think for a basic set of wheels, heaps of options to get it to suit your riding & weight and price.

Yep call Greg he is mostly too busy bulding to get onto his computer - calling gets better answers as well as he can ask questions on the spot.

But short the answers is wheels are great & after sales service is excellent.

Give Greg a call. I posted an online enquiry ages ago. He finally got back to me after I went and found something else. Apparently he changed web servers or something so had a huge amount of online enquiries he hadn't received.

scotto - think you nailed it there (I know he also handles all his own importing etc etc) as well as trying to build wicked wheels.

Calling is the way to go for sure. Greg likes to have a chat to you so he can give you an idea about wheel designed for you, the type of rider you are and what sort of riding you like to do.

I have 2 sets of his wheels, 1 alloy clincher set, 1 full carbon clincher set. I love them both.
As mentioned in some of the other replies, best after sales back up and support I have ever come across.

I got a set of alloy clinchers, about 480g rim each. 20 DT Swiss spoke front and 24 rear. $800.

MUCH faster & 1000x stronger than the old Shimanos I had.

I've just ordered my 2nd pair of TWE wheels (MTB this time).

I already have a pair of TWE 50mm carbon clinchers with TWE proprietory hubs, DT Swiss aero spokes (20f/24r count) - these were replacements for Mavic Ksyrium Elites, they weigh 1380 grams the pair, less than Ksyrium Elites. I paid $1,600 + courier fee in middle of 2010. My wheels arrived 8 days after I paid, exactly when Greg said they would. TWE = Highly Recommended by this little black duck.

Phone Greg, he is indeed busy but not too busy to take my recent order (last week) and promise a 7-10 day turn around. He is a good listener, not just there to take your money, he can and will build to your own spec has plenty of options and ideas and his 'lifetime' warranty is also very attractive if there is an oops......

Just ordered a set of wheels from Greg

Emailed him last night with my enquiry/specs and he called me this morning to discuss options. He impressed me with his phone manner, turnaround time, options (down to what colour stickers i wanted) and the price was competitive. wheels come with crash replacement warranty and all accessories (pads, skewers, tape, valves)

Rims - 50mm front 58mm rear
Spokes - DT aerolite 20F/24R
Hubs - TWE "premier"
Stickers - Black
Weight - ~1380g

Will have them in a week

Anyone ever have issues with TWE branded hubs? I was replacing the cassette on mine last night and the cogs had gouged into the teeth of the freewheel body. Was a mission to get the cassette off, but the freewheel body is screwed. Only about 7-8 months old!

I just swapped my TWE Shimano free hub carrier (for the TWE supplied Campag freehub) I did notice some minor bite marks on my Shimano carrier but nothing over the top and certainly nothing to cause a malfunction like fittment issues.

I'd ring Greg on Monday and sort it out with him. How about posting a pic of the damage.....? I'm curious as I expect I'm rolling on the same TWE Premier hubs as yours.

BTW - great looking stealth bomber JV911

Love the bike too was trying to find one of those when I was buying my bike - they are Aussie aren't they?

The free hub is most likely AL which would be soft so likely to get chewed a bit quicker than a steel or Ti that would be my guess

Those marks are nothing - you've got heaps of life left in the freehub.

Ensure you tension the cassette lockring to 40Nm as this will help limit that type of wear. You are not even close to having a gear slip with those little notches though so this is not of concern and its something that happens with all alloy freehubs.

not limited to the twe premier hub.

Happened on my dt-swiss freehub, check the following link out viewtopic.php?f=34&t=29626 for more details and possible solutions. I have installed the american classic system but do not know if it actually works.

Shark bites or love bites, if the installation / removal of the cassette is made problematic by the tooth marks then I'd still be looking for a better freehub carrier (may not nec. be a warranty issue) but I'd stil be wanting to replace this one esp. as it's reputedly only 8 months old.
