I am in the process of planning a nice 50-60km ride for next Saturday, and I plan to finish up at the MCG in time to watch the Pies dismember the Saints.

How does bike parking work at the MCG?

Is there much thievery in the area?

My very life depends on this.

Well first off it's a gimme that the Pies will smash the Saints. Bike parking at the G would be chain it to a fence or pole probably in the same area as the motorbikes. Security will be non existent I imagine so I would'nt be leaving an expensive road bike there regardless of how many locks I used. Where are you riding from?

if I was worried about stuff being stolen, I wouldn't take it to a Collingwood game.

They have cycle racks (directions on their website), though I can't tell you how securely designed they might or might not be, or whether they are sufficient for a full house crowd.

While bicycles are not permitted to enter the stadium, there are three sets of bicycle racks at the MCG, located on the external concourse:

•Between Gates 3 and 4
•Near the bus turning circle on the corner of Jolimont Street and Terrace
•At the junction of the MCG concourse and the footbridge outside Gate 1
Please note that these facilities are not manned by security personnel and it is the responsibility of the cyclist to secure the bicycle before entering the stadium.

Mine is a cheap mtb, not an expensive road bike. With luck the pilferers will target the shinier bike next to mine

if you want to smell like a pies supporter, just don't shower for the few days beforehand

If that's your theory you are way wrong. The Pie's supporters are all going to be inside watching their team do what they do!

If you are dressed appropriately, maybe you could do the "pop in" to the Lexus centre and ask someone over there if you could lock the bike up somewhere there...

I have a 'special events' bike - an old 10 speed - for the tennis, cricket, football, etc. Havent had nor heard of bikes stolen at the MCG - some of my friends also ride there, again old bikes. Wouldnt take my (valuable) tourer-commuter. Plenty of places to lock a bike.
