2012 TDU Bupa Challenge Tour

Postby nutsack » Tue May 31, 2011 10:23 pm

The route is up!

138km Norwood to Tanunda with 2 King of the Mountain's!

http://www.tourdownunder.com.au/getinvo ... nformation

Please no green coloured jersey this time.

Profile doesn't seem too bad. Distance being longer than this years, and the big climb at the end will make it a test, but there is a lot of downhill.

Route Map

Point to Point - Norwood Start

Seems like a good route, but anyone have an idea of what Smiths Hill is like ?

Who the hell is Bupa ?

Nice.

"....but there is a lot of downhill"? You're obviously a climbing nut and expecting to finish in high altitude?!

Am I missing something here??? Stage map indicates climbing Ansteys Hill, but point to point says Adelaide/Mannum road. Going by point to point you turn right from Lower North East onto North East which is actually impossible. I hope it is Ansteys, it will make for a very tough course, a lovely climb though and some great views. Have never ridden Smiths Rd either. It does run sort of parrallel with Checkers so expect some pain. Great to finish in the Barossa too, awesome spot.

No now I have it  Ansteys is the continuation of lower nth east, right turn onto adelaide/mannum at Houghton makes this possible.
Note to self - read instructions carefully. This is going to be a tough course.

I agree, whilst there are some downhills, there is lots more uphill, and up and down and up and down and up and down .... And Menglers near the end ...

I'm definitely keen to give the Mt Pleasant>Tanunda ride a crack.. Bit skeptical about my hill climb ability, but I will have until January to train I suppose... (and convince the wife that a road-bike would be a good purchase).

Just read on the mutual community website, the first 200 members who sign up get half their registration fees paid for by Mutual Community.

Sorry no link but it's on their site easy to find.

Had a drive on Menglers Hill Road yesterday to checdk it out.
I reckon I can give it a go... too bad I have a 4 week trip to USA in September to ruin my prep.
By the time I come back 20% less fit, and 20% heavier, it will be a tougher ride.

I made it up the old freeway this morning, so that gives me confidence I will make it up Menglers hill - haha.

Lets not mention the average speed on the way up though...

My first time on a proper climb so will get better I am sure - still only 4 months in the saddle.

Interesting, shows that there is only 1185m of climbing.

The run up Nth East Rd will sort a few people out I think. It's a long drag upwards with plenty of km to go.

Strange, I mapped it on Bikeroutetoaster.com and it said 1350 metres climbing.

Yeah, I think if someone does it on Bikely then it will have a differnt amount of climb, from what I've seen, mapmyride seems to be the most conservative in terms of calculating climbing.
