SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoAnyone missing a Colnago in Sydney?? let me know the details of the bike and I'll let you know if it matches el cheapo bike for sale I found .... otherwise I'm a buying it
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - Colnagoif temptation gets the better of you... ask them for a handwritten receipt with a description of the bike (Model, S/N etc) and ask to sight it against some ID
An honest seller would have no reason to quibble. Kym

Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoThat's a great idea will do ! do bikes have serial numbers though? in particular the old vintage bikes?
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoStamped into BB shell
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoWell... as I learnt with my recent first "boutique" frame accquisition - no, they don't necessarily have serial numbers. I can't speak for the Colnagos though.
But I think the point of my suggestion was made.. if it's an honest seller.. they should be happy to record the transaction. Again though on the other hand, they may well have bought it innocently and are now selling it on as such. Who knows how many hands it has passed through if originally stolen. I guess it's the risk you take. It's your conscience - not ours Kym

Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - Colnagoyeah this is true, that's why I figure if I look around for someone trying to find their stolen colnago and can't find anyone then at least I tried. Cause you're right the possibility is that it simply isn't stolen and this guy is genuinely just selling the thing el cheapo cause he's moving overseas as he claims. It's possible I'm so used to being ripped off when I'm getting a deal I don't trust it ... therefore I shall buy her today and hope she will be mine forever
(did I justify my purchase enough just now ....... )
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - Colnagophotos please
Oppy Le Mauco - Dura Ace (wet weather bike)
Cervelo S5 VWD - dura ace Di2
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - Colnagono photos yet or some possible dis honest person will be like "hey thats my bike" and I just might believe them. I think maybe a two week minimum period for someone to claim and then photo's a plenty will be coming up
bikey is a work of art ....
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoYou could always post the serial number.
Just bear in mind that if you choose to buy the bike, and it is discovered later that it is stolen, you can be charged with receiving stolen goods. Not knowing is unfortunately no defence. glenn -----------

Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoI don't know where it ranks against your conscience - but I hope the thing is your size as well

Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoMine is registered with Colnago under my name.
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoMaybe this is leading onto what should be another thread - but for those that have Bike specific insurance (velosure etc) how do you go about detailing or itemising your steeds for such purpose?
My fleet of about 6 bikes, at any given point at least 3 or 4 of which are in some state of disassembly/reassembly. My recently purchased 1980s Kenevans, and arguably the most valuable frame in my collection has no serial number. Kym

Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoI can't find a serial number on it but it's not necessarily stolen either - if it was a definately stolen item I'd be looking at police options so yeah I just thought on here would be a perfect place to be sure no one is missing her out of their shed. The guy certainly knows the bikes parts and details of the components and associated value he's just willing to sell it what I think is a bit too cheap. Anyway thus far I can't find anyone on the hunt for a missing bike that matches it.

I think you might overestimate the readership of these forums. Not all 'Nag owners (or thieves for that matter) are sad 'net dwelling forum lurkers... ahem.. like us. Go on.. you know you want it. Kym

I'm on my way
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoHi Isabella, have just stumbled on your forum post after a last ditch google search of shear desperation... I am looking for a 2007 Extreme Power 56cm in Glossy black custom paint. It has a full campy record group. I purchased from a North Sydney seller early in April. I organised courier to collect. Courier company confirms consignment collected, but bike never arrived. Unfortunately, i didn't take insurance at the time of booking, so I am up the creek and nearly $4K out of pocket as courier company are writing off as lost and won't help any further. Does this sound like the bike you have seen/purchased?
Re: SYD - Possible stolen bike spotted - ColnagoMore info paulyb.
Did you buy online ? If so where was the bike advertised ? Do you have a copy of the ad or some photos of the bike ? How did you pay for it ? What delivery company lost the bike ? Just asking these questions to see if you've been had by a online scam. Occasionally you'll find expensive road bike ads in online classifieds that are scams and you don't see many bikes for sale like the one you've had stolen. I've read a few stories where people have lost a lot of money buying expensive bikes that didn't exist. I did see this frameset that fits the description on ebay in mid April but it was only for a frameset not a full bike, it sold for a bit over $1400 whereas you said that you bought a complete bike for nearly $4000.
