DGV winter racing?Hey Sydneysiders,
A few of us were having a conversation about track training and winter and the idea was floated to head down to DGV if we had a few takers for some winter racing to keep all involved and interested. The question therefore is what racing is on over winter and what days/times are the norm? Is there anything on for the juniors as well? I'm sure my 9yr old would love a go if it were possible.
Re: DGV winter racing?I'm only new to the track this year, but I've been told that they run the RAW (race all winter) series at DGV during the winter months. It's on a Friday night and brings out trackies from a lot of the Sydney clubs. There are youtube videos of last years races about if you want to have a look. I believe they have juniors as well (at least they have junior elites).
DGV is also open for practice during the week for about $10. I've never ridden at DGV and I'm looking forward to it. I did a crit there on the outdoor circuit last weekend and got to have a look at the velodrome while the state champioships was on. The thing is a wall! I had to stop myself from drooling onto the boards. David
Re: DGV winter racing?i'm lookin forward to trying the RAW thing too !
last year i seem to recall the Bulldogs cheerleaders training in the middle too ...
Re: DGV winter racing? That's a bonus or distraction!

Re: DGV winter racing?I'll have to try scheduling in a few early Friday finishes
Re: DGV winter racing?

Re: DGV winter racing? That will make you Div4 at RAW
I still have an LACC number I need to return to someone from the Friday night racing. I've got stuff on ebay
Re: DGV winter racing?Mikesbytes,
How does the grading system work. Do I have to get some experience in the boards before racing? Or will they just grade you low and see how you go?
Re: DGV winter racing?
If you are new to track racing you can go in the novice race and stay there until you feel confident to race in the grades. Most do this the first week and race the next week onwards. If you have been racing on the Goulburn velodrome, then you will be ready to go straight into a grade. Generally you can get advice from the other riders as to which grade to start in. If nobody knows you, then Crafty will figure it out for you. And if you find you got it wrong, you can move up or down as applicable. Pretty much everyone seems to sort it out, so I don't think there have been that many that have been told to move a grade, if any. Its more fun to be in the right grade, so you don't tend get buglers I've got stuff on ebay
Re: DGV winter racing?
It's quieter without buglers. Cheers, Cameron
Re: DGV winter racing?i dont think these are the right size for my track bars - anyone know if they come in 33mm diameter, or just 28???

Re: DGV winter racing?i'm just a lttle bit excited and nervous in equal amounts !
RAW starts tonight http://www.rawtrack.com.au
Re: DGV winter racing?i managed to grab one of each placings in three races
the novice races though were all really sprints of varying length due to the handicapping ( which was fine) only one ambulance needed and not for any of the beginners. i guess its move up time to div 5 or 4 next week !! great atmosphere and commentary. certainly any cyclist would enjoy watching it if bored one friday !
Re: DGV winter racing?Good to hear Scotto!

Re: DGV winter racing?RAW was brilliant and Scott did an outstanding job showing up all of the novices. It's a great night out for everyone. You get riders from first timers all the way up to world champions racing. It's a great spectacle.
I'll be back next week; I've ordered a 14T cog but I suspect I'll have to up my chainring as well. That and seriously HTFU. I'm lighter, fitter and better looking than Scott, so I should be able to beat him David

Re: DGV winter racing?
I was going to say that your wife seems to like it, but someone else has volunteered to settle the matter for me next Friday night: ![]()
