Hope you enjoyed your Dome ride today Axel. Pity you had to check out as the coffee session post ride is always enjoyable, and I doubt that any cycling group in Australia has a better club house. Hope to see you here again.

I have a couple of weeks leave before getting back into work after a stint O/S. Got real lazy whilst away and cracked an extra 20kgs on. Was hoping to jump on a couple of group rides to ease myself back on the bike.
What is going during the week? Sats I usually do some trails on the mtn bike, and sunday I hope to get back over and race with the vets (well try and keep up) but for the weekdays, since I have them off, I am easy.

What about trying the vets Richmond ride each Wednesday, 9am start from behind the Richmond Bakery. An extra 20 kg wont matter; you will be riding with gentlemen!

I’m heading to Tassie on the 24th for a couple of weeks and staying with my daughter in Deviot (about 35 minutes out of Launceston by car) and just wanted to know if it is worth bringing my road bike in regard to suitable roads to ride on in that area.

Keep in mind I’m an old guy who’s crap at hill climbing.

Any suggestions about best areas to ride, or any guys I can go for a ride with who wont mind waiting for me at the top of every hill?

Happy to throw the bike in the car and drive to a suitable area.

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,

There is a Veteran bunch that rides from Longford Monday's, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Usually ride about 70-80 klm and then coffee after.
Longford is about 30 klm south of Launceston and the rides are fairly friendly (no nasty hills).
They leave JJ's bakery punctually at 8.30 am .
Also some good rides on the West Tamar near deviot but has got a few hills.

Thank novice, that sounds great even though the distance may test out my current fitness.

As soon as I get organised at my daughters place I will definitely make my way across to Longford
and will see how I go. :D

Cheers,
Tom

Nice to meet Tom last Wednesday and reports from the bunch was that he had a good ride.
Tom was with the bunch again today but the Saturday bunch tend to ride a bit harder. My apologies Tom. The bunch dropped you about 20 klm's out and I had no hope convincing the head strong adrenalin junkies up the front to slow down in the hope you would catch us up. I hope you had company on the ride back to JJ's?
Again I am sorry mate. If you catch the bunch on Monday or Wednesday, I am sure they will take it easy on you.
Hope your wife is feeling much better and you enjoy the rest of your stay in Tassie.

Thanks mate. and certainly no apology necessary.
My biggest problem was only getting 3 hours sleep on the Friday night, and therefore not having enough energy to sustain the required distance and speed.
But hey I loved ryding with you guys, and I'm extremly envious for the great area that you have to ride in!
My wife is over the worst of her illness, but it does mean that I have to head back home ASAP and cut my stay short.
Cheers, and a special thanks to Doug for going out of his way and nursing me back to JJ's Bakery.
Tom

I believe (not entirely sure) that there is a thu bunch that leaves from ken self (maybe) I will ask the guys at the next club race if there is a thu bunc, there is also a wed evening one too which holds a few vets riders but again I cannot confirm the details.

Barry, can you arrange your flexi days to do the Wednesday ride at Richmond . 9am start from the car park behind the bakery, just outside the Police Station. You do have a clean record?
