DEER ON THE EAGLE BIKE TRACK

Postby BoardRider » Tue Jun 21, 2011 11:30 pm

HI,
I'm not sure if these deer have been around for while .I thought I should let others know.
I saw my first about 7pm last week at the old shell service station. It may have put riders travelling downhill at speed at risk ,wandering about and moving across the road.
The second jumped the guard rail by the Bollards a much larger animal around the same time coming out of the Park today.
I haven't encountered them before, I hope they aren't territorial like magpies otherwise I will need to purchase bigger zip ties.

Interesting. I've seen kangaroos hop across the track, a koala watching people fly by, and the latest was an echidna wombling across the down track just by the EoH MTB track.

The only deer I have seen were in the farm, area by the dog kennels.

Thanks for the heads up

I have seen these deer a few times over the last couple of months. They do wake you up on a desent! I've almost been taken out by rabbits on this road as well.

Yep seen the deer, I've been lucky I've always seen them on the way up !!!!! But like others have caught roos and bunnies on the way down and that is disconcerting enough.

Three deer headed straight for a rider who just past me tonight .They pulled up just before making contact and jumped the guard rail. They were very quick and erratic all over the place hard to react too. Further up the road there were another two in the centre of the traffic island but they headed away from us.
Maybe they are attracted too our bike lights ? Anyone know?

Nope, no idea, but they're rated quite a hazard by cyclists in some parts of the US because of the very unpredictability, their size and because they'll often run up the road rather than off to the side.

I assume they escaped from 'somewhere', you know, like that deer farm, and it would be helpful to know if they've been reported to the council, Dept of Environment etc etc as a danger. If or when someone is injured civil action could follow

Good idea I will let my council and Parks know.
Pictures ,would be great if I see them in the daylight. One has a small set of antlers at the moment.

Didn't spot anything on the way up this morning during the commute to work.

Was to slow to have done anything anyway ...

Great conditions though. Cool, quiet and no wind at all. :D
