Permission granted to snarl and growl about incompetent mechanics

Richard

(yes, you can assume I don't believe his excuse)

That's the thing, they're not light weight at all. They're stock standard rims which came with the bike - CLASS AKX R1.0

Time to be slappin' that mechanic around, methinks.

Not yet, they're being replace under warranty. They're doing the front as well today since it's had broken spokes too.

Hope it goes well. I tend to break spokes on a regular basis, but that's an ongoing hazard offroad, (bloody sticks). I never broke one when I was on a roadie, but that was twentymumble years ago, and things have changed a lot since then.

BTW, Are we talking standard lacing, or something exotic?

The rear looks standard to me but I'm not an expect. The front is radial.

Some of you may remember I was considering a flat bar road bike a while back. I decided on an OCR3 (you're quite convincing europa) and been saving it up for myself for christmas.
Well it's taunting me in my garage (resisting riding it until christmas) but I have noticed that the spokes seem to be of differing tension, ie. they resonate at different pitches when plucked. Should this be a concern? None of them seem loose however.

(I'm also a drummer - so I could just be thinking of my bike too much like a musical instrument :-P)

I'd ask the LBS where you got the bike from
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

I'd certainly mention it to the shop (take the bike in with you so they actually do have to have at least a cursory look  ). It's not likely to cause a problem in the short term so I wouldn't even worry if they leave it to the first service to do something about it ... assuming there is a problem.

Theoretically, the spokes should all sound the same and an expert builder would make sure they do, but your wheels have probably been assembled by a machine and would have been built within a tolerance that makes them reliable.

And waiting for Christmas? Yer NUTS

Richard :D

What do they say? Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

I'm going to enjoy christmas, that's for sure ;-)

Matt.
