Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) hills

I currently commute from Sutherland into the City and have been thinking about extending my ride. I've sometimes headed into Centennial Park but I've seen a lot of reference to riding the Eastern Suburbs Hills.

Can anyone please elaborate on this? I imagine Heartbreak Hill is involved but don't really know the best way to get onto it etc. I normally hit the City at about 7am or earlier.

Up William St, New South Head Rd all the way and you'll get to "Heartbreak Hill". I'd imagine that the morning going-to-work traffic won't be fun on that route.

From the airport, head over to Arden St South Coogee via Rainbow St from the airport and Eastlakes, then North to Macpherson St, Bronte and west down to Centennial Park and on to the city from there. There's a nice few hills there, and if it's not enough, you could always do loops around the Rainbow St hill east of Arden St and South Coogee

while your at rainbow street you can do hill repeats up dundas street just around the corner!

After that If you're heading into the city you can take a downhill break along Carrington Road then turn left up to Randwick via Coogee St/ Judge St/ Milford St.

The hill up high st next to UNSW is alright if your heading out coogee way. Not the steepest around but decent in length, good for a grind.

I sometimes go to Bellevue Hill and you can go up Birraga Rd, Victoria Rd and Bellevue Rd. Then I head out New South Head Rd to Watsons Bay. That takes in "Heartbreak Hill" - traffic can be a bit hairy on New South Head Rd. Then there's Vaucluse with Hopetoun Ave and Wentworth Ave. Then you can climb out of Watsons Bay up to Macquarie Lighthouse on Old South Head Road. Additionally coming from the south you can just visit all the beaches which involves climbs out of Maroubra Beach, Coogee, Bronte and Bondi.
