I just popped a Continental race tube putting the tyres on though. Pinched it when mounting the tyres (Continental Ultra Race) they are new folders, very tight. Haven't pinched a tyre in years. It went BANG.

Campy wheels can be a bit tight to get tyres onto. At least you don't have to worry about you tyres rolling off if you get a flat.

I might have to put the tyres on without a tube a couple of times to loosen them up so this doesn't happen again.

Got caught out on the trail on the weekend. Schwalbe Marathon Pluses. They're cows to "feel" the presure through due to the reinforced tread. Started with a pinch flat over roughish ground... obviously a bit under inflated. One snapped valve & another pinched tube later ... the 3rd and last spare goes on OK - without levers... my cold blackened hands were the only fitting tool required.

I find I have to revise my fitting technique with each different tyre I try.

Totally agree with you there Kym. My usual technique for fitting a tyre (especially for loose tyres that have been "run in") is to just get the tube round with a puff of air and stick it in the tyre, pinch the tyre closed around the tube and stuff it in the rim and pull the bead over the rim with my thumbs, but on really tight tyres like this I find I have to put one side of the tyre on without the tube, pull it over to one side and then stuff the tube in and up out of the way, and fit the other bead. Worked like a charm on the other rim.

I'll be ordering my groupset soon .. Can't wait! I prefer Veloce because of the polished aluminium finish. Jumping to modern wheels and groupset from my previous road bike build (6 speed with downtube shifters) is going to be quite an experience, and given it's on par with Shimano 105 it should be all I ever need.

I'll grab another tube today so I can put the front tyre on properly!

Anyways heres a proper pic .. because I wanted to ask you guys what colour bar tape and cable outer do you think would suit? I'm tossing up between yellow or red .. white won't work unless I go with a white saddle as well. I'm happy to keep the black Selle Italia Flite on there but am trying to work out what bar tape will make it all work.

i'd go black tape and outers, or maybe silver outers.
yellow's a bit too bmx bandits for me, and red might not match the red of your frame..

It matches.. and it's practical. Unless you want to pfaff around with yellow cloth tape, layers of shellac and thereby making them the colour easily cleaned.

I'm sorry - bar tape is the one bit of a bike I still consistently err towards function over form.

This is a new bike, you're not familiar with really riding it. You're still dialling in your personal dimensions & geometry. You're likely to want to change the stem/bars//levers etc before too long after this build. Go with something cheapy in black till you and the machine are better dialled in together.
