I need new tyres for my Hybrid (700x35)

Postby Scrap » Sat Jul 30, 2011 10:30 am

I have a 90's Giant hybrid with 700x350 tyres on it.They are the original tyres therefor perished and unsafe.
I'm having all kinds of trouble finding replacement tyres for this bike.
Can anyone suggest a good bike shop in Brisbane city?

Yep, they would be rather large fat tyres at 350.

indeedly, 700x35 would seem more like it.

Can't see why such tyres are hard to get locally.... it'd have to be a pretty small, specialised store not to carry such a standard size or something close enough to it (~32-38mm).

Phone around if you want to save your shoe leather or petrol whilst the treadly is off the road ;)

Haha thanks guys, yeah that'd be a lot of rubber to push around

Ive tried a couple of bike shops around the area and was surprised with the lack of choice.
I was originally looking for a coloured tyre...but threw that idea in to the to hard basket.

I got some 700x38 Schwalbe marathin cross tyres to replace my 35mm Maxxis tyres.

So far so good after 500kms on the rear. And only $33 from c r c

Hi,

I recently had to replace the tyres on my Hybrid .
I went to the LBS and got some Michelin Citys in 700x35C.
They were about $40ea and come with a reflective strip along the sidewall, much like the original Merida Speed40 tyres the bike came with.
They also had less knobbly tread and more of a smooth road tyre, but with deep water grooves which was more suitable for the riding I was doing.

They have great grip in the dry, and good braking grip in the wet, but when the road is damp/greasy, just be careful how hard you corner (goes without saying). Durability also seems good.

I noticed a pretty good gain in average speed to with the reduced rolling resistance.

Recommend these easily if your riding is on the asphalt.
