Best long distance bib shorts

Hi Guys,

i am about to do some long rides (for me anyway) 150 - 200km. I am after recomendations for the best long distance bib shorts. So far the ones i have received recommendations for are:

* Assos Mille
* Ground Effect
* Pearl Izumi Pro

Any got some bib shorts they swear by?

Aldi.

No, seriously... $39 for a pair of bib nicks and I've been wearing mine a year on short and long rides. They feel great. I don't understand why I'd pay any more than that, unless I felt it was important to have the right brand or logo on my legs.

Giordana Tenax Carbon for my 2c.

They go for approx $100 from the UK and I have 4 pairs. Love them. Never done 150+km (highest is 130km) in them but for my regular rides around 80-100km or so they are brilliant and can't see why they wouldn't be over longer distances.

I would say Assos is in a different league to all the normal shorts.

I'm very happy with the Ground Effect shorts. Regularly ride 150-200k in them. I guess the chamois is the same in the bibs??

Another vote for Assos here. Sugoi are also pretty good but their durabilty is lacking in my experience.

For the short rides (around the 100 km mark) I find my Castelli Velocissimo and Gore Xenon Sonic Bib Shorts bib shorts also very good.

Oh yeah... there is a guy in my ride group who is still wearing the same pair of assos shorts he's had since 2002 - washing them 2-3 times a week. They still look better than most and if he didn't tell you they were 9 years old you wouldn't know.

Anyone tried Rapha bib shorts ... Got good write ups but seem to be in the Assos price range.

I thought the same once too. Until I pulled up numb in that area. Once my fears were quelled and feeling returned I bought myself a pair of Sugoi evolution bibs. Haven't regretted it either.

Looking forward to giving my hincapie bmc bibs a go tomorrow. They look the goods.

My current best shorts are Castelli with their Progetto X2 chamois. Better than my other Sugoi RS for >100km.

I'm considering assos later in the year though.

Thanks! Everything else has felt very second rate since Assos.

How is it that Assos manage to cut their shorts so your manhood has a living room and everyone else tries to jam it in the cupboard?

I'm not sure they are available in Brisbane. There is an Australian agent and they are very good. You can call them and they help with sizing etc, plus free postage.

There are all the usual online suspects too. These guys have reviews of the different types. Be aware that the different models are just different specs... they fit differently too.

I used to ride slice twistgels for about $150 ea, but I've switched over to Tenax Carbon - about $100 ea, no comparison and I'll never go back. The only problem is the fronts are rather high making nature breaks a little tougher, but not impossible. I've bought body clones (again about $100 ea on sale) for long rides and they feel amazing, with basically the same pad as tenax.
