Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiThanks Matty for a nice bit of bike porn
I rarely lust after a new bike, but that is one sweet ride. I would wonder how much it will cost, but I can't afford a new bike at the moment anyway. Still a guy can dream. I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought "you're not fooling anyone, you know"
Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiThat is ticking nearly all the boxes for me. Just need mudguards and rear rack and am ready to buy it!

Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiOooh yeah! I might just be in the market for a commuter soon, and was thinking about Cannondale's Bad Boy solo but this could be good.
I wonder what belt drive and internal gears would be like? ![]()
Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiIf i lived in the city i would be all over that, Avanti have got some seriously good looking bikes in their lineup now.

Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiNice! I want one. When do the stores get them in stock?

Be damned if I know. Spied the "2012 range coming soon" pics on their home page: http://www.avantibikes.com/home/home.aspx - not up today it seems... Sent from my Dell D630 using fingers on a keyboard

Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiYeah, I saw the Inc 2 at AusBike and thought tick tick tick. It's a great looking bike and has all the right bits. Now I just need to work out how to get the tick that really matters (from the better half)!
I know Norco have a similar bike (hydro discs, belt & IHG) so it will be good to see a few more manufacturers getting into these. Norco VFR1 Disc, Merida 903, Mofo Single Speed, Giant MTB, soon to be vintage Gazelle fixie
Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiI notice in the pictures that this bike has a schrader valve rather than the standard presta valve that's normal found on a 700c bike. I wonder if that's true of production bikes you can find in the shop.
Re: Mmm tasty new Avantiwho cares? (ie what practical benefit is there either way?)
The tyre spec is a 37c, they probably just grabbed the first tube they could find for the pre-production/prototype build.

As an all weather commuter, a Belt+IGH is making more and more sense for my day to day bike. Id even go alloy from a steel only philospoghy for this bike, but the sticker shock ($1700) will probably see me wait until these bikes hit maybe the $1100 mark. Im hoping just like the 29er has redefined the MTB market, the Belt+IGH will redefine the (largely untapped) potential commuter market. chop wood
Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiThat's pretty affordable compared to the Felt. Definitely on my wish list.

Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiOptimistic. The hub itself is about $900 and belt drive setup is about $400. You could be waiting a while.
Re: Mmm tasty new Avanti
For you to buy maybe but OEM pricing is very different. Work out the component cost of most things and it is way more than the cost to buy the complete article. 1700 today will be on sale for 1200 this time next year as the new model hits the stores. 2008 Specialized SWorks Roubaix SL - Zipps - Campag - Nuff Said

Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiPM me when it happens then. I might be interested in a 11 speed, belt drive, disc braked bike for 1200.
Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiWouldnt waste the bandwidth it is Al and we all know you only ride steel - so until you move into the 20th century it is technologically out of your league.

Re: Mmm tasty new AvantiSorry if I caused offense. I was serious. I'm not across every deal out there. Anyway, what makes you think I only ride steel? What is wrong with steel frames anyway?
Re: Mmm tasty new Avanti
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO! Please don't turn this into a "steel is real" thread.. we already have one of those (actually, many)! Let us return to our previously-scheduled drooling over the Inc 3. Hey, I checked out the links that MattyK sent through. I couldn't quite tell if it has pannier mounts at the back. Does anyone know? Re: Mmm tasty new Avantiwow, that is one nice looking bike. that could convince me to include an al' bike in the stable and even forgo a fixie commuter to take on gears. well actually the fixie would then become a polo bike.
as for the cost, when you consider the lower running costs/maintenance of belt drive, the cost amortised over the life of the bike is nothing really. the wheels should last almost forever with proper care without the rims being used as braking surfaces. and not having any drive train muck to stain either clothes or employer's floors (my bike comes into the office with me now) means those arguments are settled. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: Mmm tasty new Avanti
Sounds like some serious rationalisation going on If you need some more arguments, if I caught the bus instead of riding, that would cost me $40 x 48 = $1,920 so I would save the money in less than a year I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought "you're not fooling anyone, you know"
