Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERSFINALLY finished (excet for decals) my 1969 Dawes Shadow, has been about a year of constant trouble, i swear this thing must be posessed lol. From what i've read, the frame is plain gauge 531, lugs are french Bocama items (kind of weird that a British bike would use French lugs, though it had Simplex gears too).
Before, as picked up from the tip. ![]() After a LOT of work. ![]() Very happy with how it's turned out, especially that i managed to get the bartape PERFECT, 1st time that's happened Sadly, because of the rain today i haven't been able to ride it yet (there's no way i'm getting it dirty!) Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERS1965 Tom Wallace Special, as picked up from the tip with SunTour Honor 5 speed setup.
![]() After stripping it all back and converting to singlespeed (have since swapped the rings around so 42-16 rather than 52, that was painful on the hills). ![]() When man invented the bicycle he reached the peak of his attainments- Elizabeth West.

Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERSi made my own blasting cabinet when i was restoring the Valiant wagon- had to have been the most usefull tool in the garage.

Hey... you've only just shown us the opposite side of the same ring Kym
All manner of half finished projects and a bit of randonneuring I used to be tech-savvy. Now I'm just tech-weary.
Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERSHaha well spotted, i only thought of taking before and after pics after blasting one side, they were equally as bad. I did take a pic of the 22T ring with half rusty and half clean but it wasa bit dark then.

Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERS
Mate, you are well ahead of most with respect to photography! Good job.
Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERSI have a mate at work who is entered into our team for this years Sydney to the Gong ride. He was basicly starting from scratch, having not ridden further than the end of his street in the 8 years he has had his current bike - a $99 Big W special.
He brought the bike around one afternoon so I could take a look at some of the problems. I was astounded at how Crappy this bike really was! The brakes didnt work properly the gear selection was vague the wheels out of true and the cones loose - this bike was not going to make it to Wollongong! So I decided to do something. I pulled out my old Shogun Trailbreaker 4. It has been sitting at work, being used as a "shop run" bike and for when I was bored at work. ![]() I figured it was time to do a fix up on the old girl and give my mate half a chance of making a comfortable ride to the Gong. So, I stripped the bike down and checked it over. The bearings did need servicing. The BB was Toast! - I picked up a new one. The frame went to Mr. Kleen for a new colour finish. The original Tioga tyres came off and some faster, slick road tyres went on. New cable inners, and a good clean up using the Brown Vinegar bath method (works really well!!) Kero, and plain elbow grease, and the bike was re-assembled. The re-cycled Shogun, now looks like this; [imghttp://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k612/rebilda/Shogun/IMG00461-20110831-1638.jpg][/img] ![]() ![]() My Garage = Restored Paino - the "Fixie" - Giant Trance X2 - Azzurri Forza Pro Di2
Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERSThat's cool rebilda. I love seeing older MTB restored/refurnished like that. There's something about a rigid MTB that is appealing. Probably just reminds me of the good old days of riding around the neighbourhood on mine.
Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERSawesome, i often toy with the idea of giving my trailbreaker 2 a new lick of paint, your friend must be chuffed

Re: BEFORE AND AFTER PICS BY ALL RESTORERSActually, it was White with a light Green, sprayed up from under the tubes for like an overspray effect - and the finish was pretty trashed
