Rides from cbd

Postby Addictr3 » Mon Sep 05, 2011 9:58 pm

Moving down to melb for work and will be living in the heart of melb. I usually do around 550-600km a week so I'm after some long safe routes around melb. I ride early mornings if that helps. Any good long safe rides anyone can suggest?

Depends on your time and how hard or easy you want it, from the CBD you could take city road out to port Melbourne up Beach road and down to Mordialoc. if you ahve time you can then take it down to Mt Eliza - Mt Martha etc. Or if you're after shorter distance but with climbs, maybe try heading out to Blackburn, Doncaster and Warrendyte.

All depends on what kinda ride you want and how much time you have mate.
Happy Days

Legend, thanks for the reply champ. I am happy to hit 3 days hard, 2 med and 2 light. Weekends will be hard and duration will be long. Monday and Tues (hence the Traffic on Monday is always heavy) will be light and the rest of the week will be hard/med. Friday I will do light for the weekend. I am also looking to maybe race when I am down in Melb..

I am going to google City Road (on maps) and see what its like..

Cheers

Can't help you with your intent to race, but here's a few training ride links to help you out:

http://theclimbingcyclist.com/ - AWESOME site for climbs around Melbourne. I live in the eastern suburbs so I hit up the Dandenongs quite often.

http://www.cyclingtipsblog.com/bunch-ri ... rne-rides/ - some good links and info on this page also. The "North Road Ride" starting at 6am seems right down your alley too.

If you're after a hilly smash-fest, check out the 'Alpine Tour De Burbs' too - starting from the Yarra Boulevard / Chandler Highway on Thursday evenings (about 5-6km from the city) - it is usually a fast-paced affair through the undulating terrain of the eastern suburbs. I've seen pelotons of 40+ on a nice summer evening and I've heard it attracts A-grade racers too...

Welcome to Melbourne anyway, there's plenty of cycling options down this way, so I'm sure you'll fit in just fine :-)

Thank you!

I actually am sick at the moment due to some big rides in and around Sydney just before I leave :( but I'll def be looking for some nice hills down in Melbourne!

Agree that NRR sounds like a good start as a bunch ride. And try here for questions about ATOS (tour de burbs) mentioned above.

For racing info try weekly racing or threads on metro racing. Hawthorn and St Kilda crits (both close to the city) start soon, and probably Coburg and Footscray too, but there's also Caulfield Carnegie crits which aren't listed there. And if you're doing 600km a week you can ride to them.

Assuming road here, but there's also track racing at DISC and sprints at Blackburn and others, plus some ITTs and a couple of cx races still to come, plus various mtb of course. Enjoy. :)

Hi mate - I'm also moving to Melb for work. Will be living in the CBD mon-fri until xmas.

Am training for an Ironman, but focusing on the bike and will have my road bike in Melb. Let me know if you are keen to do some hard rides Tues/Weds/Thurs morning. 50-70km.

Cheers
