I'm in the 20-25 group, from memory. I'd rather take it easy and enjoy the ride! :)

Sounds like you are selling yourself a bit short.
If you've done anything over 50km, the 100 won't be a problem for you. I have just graduated to the over 100km group recently, and it really was not much of a step up from 50-75, and my average speeds did not really drop either. So long as you have enough water to keep well hydrated, and have some jam sammy's in your pockets for bonk-time, you will be fine.
Im the same as max. but ive never done a ride anywhere close to that distance. maybe 50ks if im lucky. i just want to enjoy the day. i just want to finish it as it is my goal.

For those riding back to Bris, is there a preferred route and a rendezvous to make up a bunch?

Hey Max that's the group I'm in.

Hello fellow riders,

This will be my first Brissy to Gold Coast, and whilst I imagine the font runners easily form groups, does anyone know from experience whether groups generally form further back in the 20-25km and 25-30km speed category?

I've heard there may be as many as 10,000 riders so I imagine that there are often people around?

Is the course well signed, as a solo rider I am keen to not be isolated / get lost? I suppose you are generally in sight of some other riders? I am not worried about the bus way but more the latter part of the course as I am unfamiliar with the area and will probably be getting tired.

I regularly ride river loops and commute as well as starting 50km-75km rides out to the bay as the ride gets closer so i'd just like to get there and enjoy the experience of my first group ride.

Kind regards

From the experience of my first B2GC when i was doing a fairly sedate pace, there weren't really any groups it was just a matter of turning over the pedals.

I can confidently say YES to the other two questions though, with the number of entrants there are always plenty of people within cooee, and the course is exceptionally well signed with plenty of marshalls and police.

Just thought I'd check, are there any last minute teams forming that are welcoming people to join?

I just signed up to ride last night - never done more than 70kms before. I've sourced a road bike for the ride. Am a commuter, so I'll go for a few longer rides over the next weekends (did just over 40kms this morning) and I should be OK, I hope. :o

Thanks for the support Max - my brother convinced my uncle and I to do it. I'll do it whether he does or not. What's the difference with the average speed thing?
I selected 25-30?

Jason, the average speed categories exist so that faster riders start ahead of slower riders. That way, the speed demons don't get caught behind slowpokes. This prevents frustration and reduces the chances of "unpleasant" interactions. So it's important that you nominate a realistic average speed (or more to the point, put yourself in the right section at the start line).

:)

Look for someone else who appears to be on their own and ask if you can ride together...I did that for the Ipswich 100 ride, found another rider who was on her own, we rode together for the whole 100k...and waited together for our husbands to come in after their 100mile ride

What extra did the jersey cost you? Is it one of the scody ones?

hosko, I think it was somewhere between $80 and $90. Yes, it's the Scody one.
