This is a warning for all Avanti 2007 pioneer Owners. Today (8/9/11) the fork on my bicycle failed completely. This bike goes under a yearly shop service and is kept in good order. The fork on both sides of where joins to the steering tube has snapped. This thankfully has occured on a flat piece of road at a mear 25kmph.
I am writing this as a warning for other cyclists.
I have sustained painful injuries that caused blackouts and being put in hospital for half a day
Sincerly
Donald

Thanks Donald. Hope you heal well and soon.
The aluminium alloy crown probably developed a crack without you noticing. If you have a look at the break you may be able to see a slightly dirty part on one side.
Your type of experience is why I have (rigid) steel forks on all my bikes. I've had enough broken bones and injuries from my own stupidity. I don't need to add to it.

It is actually an RST fork failure rather than an Avanti frame/part failure (so have updated the topic title).
I hope that you are following this up, probably start with Avanti who should follow through with RST. Depending upon what they find out as to whether they would put out a recall.

Yes I will be following this up. I am currently seeing what I am going to do as I am a bit of pain, eg no solid foods due to a broken cheek bone.
Yes that is the bike in question.

I have now informed Avanti to which the bloke was quite surprised as he discribed them as "boom proof"

Hope you heal up quickly etc. Have you seen a personal injury lawyer yet? Under QLD law this wouldn't be a gold mine, far from it. But I assume your asking for a new bike and medical bills as compensation if it was a bike failure?
