Magpie spotting Spring 2011There's one on the bike path on Wells Station Rd between Gungahlin Dr and Hoskins St, Mitchell. Made a lot of noise but didn't actually come near me, I've come across this one in previous years when I used to commute on this path. Very persistent.
I haven't experienced these personally but there is reportedly one on Nanima Rd near Hall and another on Federal Hwy service Rd (heading back toward Canberra from Sutton).
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011One at Lake Tuggeranong, the other side of the dam from the Gym & Skate park

Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011one just near the corner of Fincham Street and the roundabout near St Anthony's school.
There's another one on the bike path just north of Atkins street towards Sulwood Drive. He's been fierce in other years but haven't seen him this year yet. But I'd still warn people about him.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Murrumbateman Rd coming from Sutton, the usual pair are back and taking turns around 1 km past the bridge near the homestead on the left. There are two at the Murrumbateman Nanima Rd Junction, both half hearted and independent of each other (One on the down hill approach still from Sutton, and the other from Murrumbatemaan side). The really nasty reminder that spring has arrived was the other two about 4ks along Nanima Rd from the Murrumbateman Rd junction on the flat section. They've taken it to a whole new level. They're going to be making lots of friends!
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011I saw a girl getting swooped today at McCoy Cct Acton/ANU just outside the Film and Sound Archive.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Two on the uriarra loop this morning.
Agressive helmet tap on Brindabella Rd on a sharp right hand bend going West towards Uriarra village. Got me good. Second one on the western side of the road just after the Mountain Creek/Uriarra Rd turnoff going North.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011+1 the one on Uriarra Road just before descending down Uriarra Crossing
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Found another one this morning - on Melbourne Ave about halfway along between Red Hill and Parliament House. He was a bit of a Ninja, snuck up on me silently, dive-bombed my helmet and then dissapeared as quickly as he'd appeared!
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Persistent little bugger on Owen Dixon drive on the climb between Heydon and Badenoch... never made contact, but between backpack and helmet there wasn't much to hit.

Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011The brown snake crossing the bikepath on the way back from Gold Creek on Sunday totally took our minds off worrying about magpies!
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011
Missed that one this morning. Towards or away from town? We were doing around 60kmh, so I assume our minds were elsewhere or he didn't bother. There is a nasty one on Southern Cross Dr just after the first part of the climb going to Belconnen. Got me on my helmet just as I came around to do a turn on the front. Came straight at us, then climbed and swooped. Merida Reacto 907 TWE wheels, Merida HFS 1000D, Merida Cyclocross CX4 Disc, Custom HongFu 29, Norco Diamond, Chariot CX1+CX2
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Got swooped by another one this morning in the middle of Civic outside St George bank!
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Riding back from Civic yesterday, there was one the swooped me in the Aranda parkland route back into belconnen. Up towards the top of the hill on Bindubi Street that leads into Aranda and Cook. Think the maggie was particularly annoyed that I was eating an apple!
P.S. First post
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011It's a Sydney story but some incredible photos.
http://www.smh.com.au/environment/anima ... 1kdxb.html Got done on Brindabella Road this morning by the maggie listed above.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 20111st half assed attempt at me for this season this arvo. Same place as last year, Launceston st just near the Lyons shops heading towards Melrose drive. Raised arm and a few clicks of the fingers were enough to keep him at bay.

Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011better start wearing my matte black helmet again. Maybe its all in my head but way less swoops than with the shiny one.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Barton: on the parliament house side of the road outside DFAT.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Riding to work *touch wood* I hadn't had the pleasure. Yesterdays ride was a lot later to go out, and later to come back. So the one between Atkins Street and Sulwood Drive was awake.
On the way home he got me either 5 or 6 times. He was not happy. If you know they're there, that's half the battle as you can expect it.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Found another couple of swoopers today, or rather they found me! On Hindmarsh Dr near Weston one swooped me just near the intersection of Bangalay Cres and another a bit further up near the Tuggeranong Parkway intersection. The first one just lightly tapped the helmet a couple of times and the second one just flew close and made the loud clicking noise that they do.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Got attacked by that fecker in the s-bends on Mt McDonald (Brindabella Road) - in the middle of a race, he was going nuts attacking every pack, and got me in the back.
I ride, therefore I am.

Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Did Uriarra-Tidbinbilla Loop today was expecting to get hammered...one near the three sisters and then one between Tharwa and Banks on the long bend. Other wise nothing. None between Uriarra Crossing and turn off to Condor Creek, nothing at Mt McDonald and nothing near Flilnts Crossing and Tidbinbilla nature reserve...is it just too early?
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011Swooped by one on Gungahlin Dr heading toward the city in between intersection of Gundaroo Dr and The Valley Ave.
Re: Magpie spotting Spring 2011There's now two on Owen Dixon Drive at the back of Evatt. One seems to be going for the ears.
I ride, therefore I am.
