Shimano Hierachy? Exage Motion, 300EX, 500EX, Sport LX

Hi, how are we all? I was looking through some old parts of mine and came across these. I tried doing some research on the net but I always tend to be able to find things when I'm not looking for them and when I want to find the info, I never can! I'm bad with words!

Does anyone please know the hierarchy from best to worst out of:
*Exage Motion A250
*Exage 300EX A300
*Exage 500EX A500
*Sport LX A452

500EX is better than 300EX, and 300EX is better than Exage. In addition to Exage Motion there was also Exage Sport and Exage Country, i don't know what order they go in. As to what was above those (Dura Ace was shimanos top gear then as it is now) i don't know.

Oh and i think there might be such a thing as 700EX but i'm not sure.

They go in order of the "A" number, so your list would go:

Exage 500EX A500
Sport LX A452
Exage 300EX A300
Exage Motion A250

Higher than A5xx, we have:

7xxx = Dura Ace
6xxx = Ultegra/600
5xxx or 105x = 105

Would 200gs be better than 70gs?

How good is Exage Trail please?

With the MTB stuff there were 3 levels of Exage at one stage. IIRC, from highest to lowest, Exage Mountain, Exage Country & Exage Trail.

I've seen 200GS and Exage Trail, just from looking at them it seemed pretty apparent the Exage Trail was much better quality, the 200GS was quite clunky and solid looking.

Is the Exage Trail a 6 speed or 7 speed rear derailleur please?

I think the part number of the 70GS is FC-T770... I couldn't really tell because it was hard to get to and it was dark (lazy of me I know!). Is that right or have I read it wrong in dim light please?

Is that any good?

My next question is.. can a Deore LX 7 Speed rear derailleur be used with a standard Shimano 7 Speed Shifter (the ones which are attached to the V-Brake Shimano levers? ST-EE28

Finally.. I found this Learsport BW-3000 frame chucked out and thought it would be a nice bike to do up and ride around but it has a few issues. The rear derailleur was brokem (hence my Deore LX question)... and the chain rings are bent.

Would Deore LX chainrings and cranks work with the standard ST-EE28 shifters please? I am missing the Deore LX front derailleur and front derailleur shifter hence I'm trying to mix and match!

The other issue with this learsport BW-3000 is that I can't seem to get a rear rim to fit in the frame! I tried sticking a standard 26 inch rim in there and the axle/hub/spacing width etc seems to be too wide for the frame. The distance between the two dropouts seems to be very narrow. The frame doesn't look squashed! Does anyone know if the BW-3000 was made for narrower rims/axle area etc please??

Hi, I came across this thread while searching for info about parts for my son's bike which he crashed recently. He damaged the crank set on his old (?80s/90s) but nice-to-ride Raleigh road bike. We have found a possible replacement part to buy - the original is a Shimano Exage Motion Biopace and it is marked FC-A300. The part we have found is marked FC-A250 - it looks the same and the other numbers work (170 crank length, 52-40 chain wheels); is there any significance in the difference between A250 and A300? I am quite ignorant about bikes but have found someone good to fix it! Reading this thread makes me think the A250 is just the "bottom of the range" version of what the bike originally had but I would love an opinion from someone who is familiar with these things. The bike is old but we would quite like to get an original-ish part if we can. He really enjoys riding his bike and will be back in the saddle once his broken elbow mends!

Exage in the 80's were different to Exage in the 90's.. here are the mtb versions;

1990-1991: Deore XT, Deore DX, Deore LX, 500LX, 400LX, 300LX, 200GS
