You not wrong there IP - $425 is the quote for that particular bar shipped to Brisbane. Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...

Ronk did you spot my post (back a page) on some new rohloff shifter options? Moulton Landrover APB
Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming together
The beauty of the standard twist shifter is that you can change more than one gear if you so desire instead of clicking up through the gears or through 2-4 gears at a time instead of potentially coming to a stop in 14 oops I need 8 and shift to 8 very very quickly. Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherThe beauty of a couple of those links is they are Rohloff shifters for road bike handlebars, including some drop-bar brifters for Rohloff

Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherThe links caused a bit of a stir on the Moulton website and I remembered there were a few riders here
whom are Rohloff fans/users so decided to post. I'm happy with Sram Dualdrive myself currently but if I was to change its likely it would be in the Rohloff direction. Moulton Landrover APB
Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherRifraf, thanks for the link! I think this will be a source of much discussion for dropbar riders who are considering a Rohloff hub

No, I missed it - that thumb shifter does look interesting. Here is a translated link, for those who have no German. Thanks rifraf Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...

Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherHey il padrone,
How long did it take for your Rohloff hub to be delivered from Bike24 once ordered online? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk... "It never gets easier, you just go faster..." - Greg Lemond
"Because technology alone is a poor substitute for experience." - Richard Sachs
Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherIt took quite a while - about 7 weeks if I recall. Ordered late November, arrived about 10 Jan. But not Bike24's fault. It was caught up in the delays of the very heavy winter snowstorms in Europe last December.... then the Christmas mail rush.
It was a bit disappointing I didn't have it for our summer tour, but overall I didn't mind - was willing to wait. Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherHi Wingnut
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I think I remember Starbike and Bike24 using German DHL and being very slow. I looked back to an old post of mine in the "I want a new headlight - dynahub" thread and seeing:
I remember seeing other posts in other threads bemoaning ze Germans pedestrian mailing services. Bottom line is dont hold your breath. They were also very slow to add info to the tracking service. It was my first internet buy and drove me even nuttier by the time it had arrived. When I do some decent tours I'm going to write them up as "Craziest Guy on a Bike" and put it down to the excess frustration of waiting for my Sondelux dynohub to turn up from Germany. The savings are worth the wait and you just have to put it out of your mind until it arrives. Very hard for me with them having my funds for a dynamo hub and Edelux headlight but I imagine even harder for you with a cool 1K in change being on the other side of the world. Still plenty here can attest to "It will arrive" so keep yourself busy whilst you wait. Moulton Landrover APB
Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherYes, I'd been checking the tracking and just before Christmas it was still showing the hub at Stuttgart airport and I'd spoken to Bike24 about it. They were prepared to wait until end Jan and then they'd send me out another
In early Jan it was still listed at Stuttgart, then suddenly it was on my doorstep Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Thorn Raven Nomad coming togetherWe have been spoiled by exemplary service from Wiggle and the Royal Mail. As I recall my Rohloff took around three weeks to arrive from Bike 24, and an order from Starbike took even longer.
BTW - if you a planning to build your own wheels as I did, then you may find this inexpensive booklet on wheel building useful. It's a very practical rather than theoretical guide which even shows you how to construct your own wheel building tools. And a couple of other tips: - since you have purchased from Bike24 the manual will be in German. You can download the English version or order a hardcopy from the Rohloff site - Robin Thorn advised me to disregard the instructions on page 55 and to cross the spokes over the hub cap fixing screws. Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming together
Great looking bars with great range of hand positions but half a kilo of weight? (Loop H) Whilst I'm not looking for super fly for my bike 500g has made me stop and take a breath I don't think my current Reynolds 753 flat bar would come too close to that even with its bar ends. Definitely a very attractive bar mind you...........half a kilo? I wouldnt call myself a weight weenie as I only just took off my Brooks B73 but thats some weight to add. Moulton Landrover APB
Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming together
Hmm? If you compare the bars to a flat bar there is quite a bit more length in total so logically it would weigh more. Touring bikes weigh so much anyway (well mine does "It never gets easier, you just go faster..." - Greg Lemond

Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming together
I've never been able to understand this line of thinking - if your bike is already heavy, surely you would want to avoid making it any heavier? Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...
Re: Thorn Raven Nomad coming together
I have no intention to make the bike heavier, I think it's just a matter of compromise between weight, performance & durability. For me, touring long km's makes fit & durability a priority. Q. Why are you using a heavy Rohloff Speedhub? A. Because it is durable and cost effective in the long term. A lighter drivetrain could be installed for less money...
