Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011I’d forgotten about it until my wife asked me last night if I was riding to work on Wed as it was ‘ride to work day’. No breakfast stops on my route, but I felt I should at least support the cause. Glad I did, as it was an excellent ride. Weather in Sydney is very pleasant, warm (ish, bit cold for the first few km), sunny, and light winds. There were lots of bikes on the road, certainly more than usual – plenty of people to chat with along the way. All the excitement must have inspired me, because I did a personal best time as well.
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011A few more bikes than usual on the PSP this morning. Enough to make me equal my speed record, for some reason I hate sitting behind pack even if they are only going 1-2 kmh slower than my natural morning speed - which is alot quicker than my afternoon speed
No brekkie for me either, I start at 7am so they all start a bit late for me. ![]()
Re: ride to work day 12/10/20113rd year I've registered, and 3rd year in a row I've missed it... sick once, overseas last year and this year on leave with a new baby...
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011Was awesome - real coffee, BANANAS, yum yum! Free t-shirt from my health provider, free water bottle, bag of lollies from BWA. I am cheap and easily impressed

Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011Well done to everyone who was able to ride to work today, especially the newbies!
I'm still stuck at my desk at home. Sigh. Max One of the best things about bicycle commuting is that it can mitigate the displeasure of having to go to work. - BikeSnobNYC

Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011STOP!!!!
i have decided i am not a fan of this commuting thing... i need lunch. i usually drive to get food as theres not much near us, so now i either starve or ride.. i dont want my pants getting all greasy from the chain so now i have to get changed, just to get lunch.. ergh.
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011Schmenz... what about some pants clips? or those reflective ankle strap things? or tucking pants into a sock?

Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011I wanted to after it poured rain last year. Weather forecast was good. Woke up to this.
![]() With the Round the bay ride on Sunday, I didn't want to risk a cold or bike damage today.
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011
i dont have any ankle strappy thingos - i did consider using hair elastics! so i lycra-d up. so just to get lunch, not only did i have to cycle through the busy streets in the middle of the day, but in lycra in broad daylight.. eeek . i apologise to the people of parramatta!
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011
oh I dunno. I'm sure there are many other unsavoury sights to behold in Parra than a female cyclist wearing lycra 2010 BMC SLC01

+1 on packing it in from home Good commute this morning, plus a breakky barbecue at work - woohoo! “Lexa”: 2012 Trek Lexa S; “Bluey”: 2006 Trek 7.0FX; “Eddy”: 198[?] Graecross Jackaroo
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011I was way too late for brekky or anything because of <insert lame excuse here>. I did ride, though. I think it's the first national Ride to Work Day where I've actually ridden to work, with one thing and another.
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011Rode in this morning with some colleagues, and we headed up to the breakfast at the Optus campus. A big thanks to all the Optus folks who organized it: bacon and egg rolls, flat white coffee, juice, bananas, all gratis. A microfiber towel as a gift, free bike checks from Renegade Cycles, free commuter maps from Bicycle NSW (I think) and even free back and neck massages. All much appreciated and a great vibe amongst the riders. I'm not connected with an of the organizations involved, but a big thanks to all of them.
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011Got free brekkie and coffee and I reckon there were more bikes on the roads today.
Maybe we should follow this with Drive to work day the very next day and really try and clog the roads with extra cars so they know just how much we reduce the traffic. DS Riding: Cannondale Quick Speed 2
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011I was the only participant of my work place for Ride to Work day 2010. Yesterday I was one of 11. It was great, our local Camden Bakers Delight provided a lovely breakfast for us. And best of all a couple of noobies suggested that we start a monthly ride to work. Great achievement for this area I reckon.

Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011
great idea - should be floated with the bicycle organisation in your state. i'll be riding anyway
Re: ride to work day 12/10/2011Rode to work as I do every day. Didn't see any other bikes on the way in, but I start work at 5am so that's no surprise.
It's good to hear stories of people commuting for the first time. It can take a few times to work the bugs out, what clothes to bring, remembering to pack lunch etc. It's worth sticking with it for a few weeks until it's a habit! John
