roller ridingwhat are other riders techniques or programs when roller riding?
do you just get on and ride? do intervals utilising varying cadence or differing gears? maybe use it as a warm down or warm up tool after or before riding.... maybe you just get on and ride like a madman until you can do no more? interested to hear...... Just an ol' man, riding an ol' bike.... every hill feels like Alpe d'Heuz....
Re: roller ridingLook for the Sufferfest website. Their vids are relatively cheap and easy to perform on rollers. I have the Downward Spiral and have watched it several times while riding my rollers. I have to be careful to not gett carried away and jump out of my saddle

Re: roller ridingYou just up your gear to make you work harder on the rollers.

Re: roller ridingThey don't feel hard but they do nail you.
One of the guys at the local shop rides who races says he uses them like this: 15 min warm up 15 min of 1 min burst interval HIGH cadence (on for a min, off for a min) 15 min warm down. I can at the present only manage about 25mins for I die... Also when you start doing high cadence make sure your balance is good on the rollers. Came flying off again the other day when trying that! 2013 Bupa Challange at the Tour Downunder - 25th of Jan 2013 - Raising money for the Cancel Council - bit.ly/YzLYG3

The one thing with rollers is....they make you smooth out your style. Video yourself, so we can see you do it next time Foo I don't suffer fools easily and so long as you have done your best, you should have no regrets.

Re: roller ridingmate said with his ones which are the PVC rollers they get very hot
My ones are the alloy ones and they are very cool No noticeable wear that I can see. It's not a like a turbo trainer! 2013 Bupa Challange at the Tour Downunder - 25th of Jan 2013 - Raising money for the Cancel Council - bit.ly/YzLYG3

Re: roller ridingtyre wear is pretty minimal on rollers unlike a trainer.
Longest session I have had is 3hrs watching disk one of the 2011 TdF. I would swap between spinning at a high cadence, standing then in the drops and hitting a higher gear depending on what was going on in the dvd. Only fell off the rollers twice and left skid marks on the carpet.
Re: roller riding
geez, i still cant do it with out holding onto the wall when do we stop for coffee???
Re: roller ridingI try and get on it daily even for as little as 10-15minutes... figure it all helps...
can finally reach down for the water bottle, drink and replace with coming off . Just an ol' man, riding an ol' bike.... every hill feels like Alpe d'Heuz....
Re: roller ridingdo you guys do this in your house? ? ? dont you hit stuff!
for me it would definitely be an outdoor thing!
Re: roller ridingoutdoor for me under the verandah.... if you want a challenge try it on a really windy day.... adds another dimension
Just an ol' man, riding an ol' bike.... every hill feels like Alpe d'Heuz....
Re: roller ridingIndoor, wall on one side for support to start. If you come off the bike just stops you won't shoot off like a bullet, it does however leave skid marks on the carpet.

Re: roller ridingIt's safer on the trainer if you do intervals.
Roller? You'll leave a skidmark on your carpet.
Re: roller riding
An undercover outdoor area is the ideal spot I think, trouble is our main bedroom is right next door and that would count any roller sessions while SWMBO is resting her pretty eyelids. I use our garage close to some shelving for assistance when I get a little flagged. I am trying to get into a regular habit of at least one session a week to smooth out the pedal stroke. ![]()
Re: roller ridingI ride with a plastic mat (one you use for computer chairs) in the study in front of the computer.
Watch what I want and the front wheel lines up with the left hand side of the desk so I can keep myself straight that way without looking down. Seems to work as no sweet goes on the carpet due to the plastic mat! Also haven't had a couple of spills, no marks as yet. Re: roller ridingRecently purchased a set of rollers from CRC and gave them a go last night..... Oh dear, if you lose concentration for a split second it's going to hurt
I managed to be able to ride for 20 minutes without holding onto the walls but man that is hard work! But the pain I felt afterwards was soooooo good! I can see myself putting my shoulder through the wall if I'm not careful though.
Re: roller riding
reminds me of my favourite hill and the masochist I feel when at the top tis all about trying to HTFU really...... . Just an ol' man, riding an ol' bike.... every hill feels like Alpe d'Heuz....

Always remember to look ahead... and don't watch any shows that are funny if the TV is on... yes pi$$ing yourself laughing on rollers isn't a lot of fun after the laughing stops very suddenly!!! 2013 Bupa Challange at the Tour Downunder - 25th of Jan 2013 - Raising money for the Cancel Council - bit.ly/YzLYG3

Re: roller ridingCracked out this years Vuelta Stage 15 last night. Recorded off SBS when it was on.
That is stunning to roll to especially the behind rider shots as they climb that very very nasty 22% incline. No idea how Cobo did what he did that day. One of the best climbs I have seen yet. 2013 Bupa Challange at the Tour Downunder - 25th of Jan 2013 - Raising money for the Cancel Council - bit.ly/YzLYG3

Re: roller riding
going to have to try some "TV" rolling..... not sure how I'd go concentration wise... just finished work, raining, so.... roller time Just an ol' man, riding an ol' bike.... every hill feels like Alpe d'Heuz....
Re: roller ridingI think rollers are good for getting comfortable in different positions, i used to get a sore neck whilst riding with my hands on the drops but since training on rollers the problem has gone, i warm up for 10 minutes in high to medium gear (small chain ring) shift into a lower gear (big chain ring) and go steady for about 30 min changing hand positions along the way sitting on about 90 to 100 rpm if you place a clock in front of you,and count the revolution of one leg for 30 seconds x 2 there is your rpm.(still can't take bottle out of holder though)
Re: roller ridingPost here as I don't want to start yet another thread...
Rollers?... I have a home trainer, gives me a great workout for sure but I don't find it comfortable for long periods ( over an hour... maximum I have done is 3 hours ), maybe a better model with larger flywheel would be better but it gives me knee trouble if I use it too much. Thinking about getting rollers as well for winter. Do I need the resistance ones or just a good quality normal pair will do? ( something like this ? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=39524 ). Looking at them for doing threshold work through out winter... I will get outside as often as I can but sometimes the fog etc that is thick all day long can stop even the bravest of us!. Anyone doing or have done lots of training on rollers?.
