Family riding in Bris

Hello Brisbane riders
Can you suggest good places to take your family for a ride? For instance if you buy your kid a bike for xmas and want to give them a good place to ride or if you want to get the family out and active in the fresh air. I'm considering Boondall Wetlands but perhaps there's a more central option. How are The Gap Creek Trails or Minippi Parklands in Tingalpa? There must be other good spots too. I'm thinking of places people can drive to and are nice for a picnic or BBQ too. What can you suggest?

Yes Minippi parklands is a good place. Plenty of BBQ's and kids playground areas and you can cycle down past Carindale before the Golf course. Don't forget to look out for the Deer pod living around the expanse between Minippi parklands and Meadowlands Rd.

I probably would not recommend the Gap Creek trails for kids unless they have some reasonable skills, but there is a large clear area with BBQ's where they could ride around.
Daisy Hill may be better.
Another option could be Kalinga Park at Wooloowin(?).
There is a good playground and I think some BBQ's along with an offleash section for dogs and the bikepath runs straight past it.
You could ride in either direction (towards Nundah or back toward Kedron).

How about Rocks Riverside? It's in the Western suburbs... Jindalee? Mt Ommaney? Around that area, anyway. I've ridden there but never driven there so not exactly sure how to get there in a car Boondall is a nice ride, too. How old are the kids in question?

Kalinga is good, but be aware that the bike path is narrow and can be crowded at times. But there is plenty of grassed area to ride around on, as well as picnic tables, shelters and BBQs.

Kedron Brook Bikeway? Just watch out for the joggers, walkers, off leash dogs, magpies and weirdos. The Boondall Wetlands would be a nice family ride if it wasn't for the guys on road bikes blasting past at warp factor 5. I can never understand the roadies who ride those shared paths at speed.

Boondall wetlands isn't too bad - especially if you have kids. Just be very careful on the wooden raised walkways, especially if it has been raining (they are extremely slippery).

There are a few roadies out on the path too - all those that I know slow down through that area in any case.

Same as the walkers on the mtb only trails at Gap Creek, some people have no common sense at all
