Look I think that it's an omission not for them to bring this up. My take on it would be females always win. If you overtake a bloke (known as being "chicked") then that's a pretty grave insult on ones manhood. If they over take you... and you contest it ... and loose then you can just diss it by saying "you just overtook a girl - shame on you for even racing" or one of those other girl type put downs. That's pretty much a win-win for the ladies.

If I had to say on the points... I'd be OK with a two point demotion. IE... if you are lycra clad and have shaved legs I'd support a down grade from 2 to 4 (hairy roadie) - if that's what you wanted.

I am by the chart sitting at four. Though I would like think I am lower as I am on an old raleigh 12speed (only 10 speed though as derailleur doesnt get up to largest rear sprocket), the bike cost me $20 and got it on the road for under $100 (spent more on it now that the rear 27inch wheel s**t itself and with tyres/tubes etc). It was originally funny passing people whose jerseys cost more than my bike did.

When passing/being passed I am always thinking though "how far have they gone already and how far are they going?"
Molly - you have hairy legs??

Electric bikes, 14. No way. Maybe in 1972, but not in 2011. I was passed on a 3% grade by an accountant in a skirt and comforble shoes on a electric bike at 35kmh. Not an exaggeration.

Yep... in Europe they have better quality bikes and abide by the 250w limit and speed governing where the assistance reduces from 25 and cuts out at 27. I too have worked to catch tiny asian ladies on huge big heavy ebikes that only pedal occasionally yet effortlessly maintain 35...

I'm only newish to cycling and I haven't gone that extra step yet (been considering the shave and the full lycra), thinking I will do it when I upgrade the bike but cant decide on what I want (nice steel frame or go carbon  ) and the money factor. Oh and I'm a guy if my name is misleading. Commuter racing is an incentive not to upgrade/shave/kit up though :D .

That's really funny. I know men absolutely hate it when I pass them and they furiously try (and sometimes) overtake me, worse is when it's someone in a lower food chain, like this guy with baggy shorts on a road bike yesterday, no matter how tired I was, I couldn't let him get away and win the points, no way! I couldn't breathe by the end and I was wishing he'd just give it up already but I couldn't show any outward signs of pain so pushed on and got the points...The truth is that it's such a silly thing to do this ccr, but if there are no contestants on my commute, then the trip home/work is not as fun.

Crazy commute home tonight. Followed a guy out of town past the grammar schools ... sat a respectable distance behind and watched... nice riding. I was still thinking I was having a recovery ride at that point...

I passed a couple of riders up Fagan St near the hospital (don't those wheels sound good!). I think I might have picked up player 2 on that hill. Anyway waiting at the lights near the holden dealer I took off behind this hairy roadie (Player 1) and followed him mostly up the hill (not drafting).. and player 2 eases up behind me due to Player 1 slowing going up the steepest bit of Kedron brook road. So out of the saddle past player 1 and up the hill. While waiting at the round about Player 2 arrives behind me.

So, off we go round the round about. Player 2 sits in behind me going down Uxbridge.... down onto the brook. Little bit of small talk at the library turnoff and away we go. So he's sitting behind me going towards everton park. over the bridge and up the gentle incline (near Bilabong St) and Player 2 is still with me. So, I think we'll see how he goes. So wound it up to 38ish. Still drafting. :) On the drops and up to 42 around the bend and down to the bridge and then up the little hill... last time I heard his derailleur. I looked in the mirror and boom... gone.  There is nowhere to turn off to so I presume he spontaneously combusted or something...

So can I claim Player 1? I don't think I can claim Player 2 but I did enjoy it.

I've learn't something recently. If you want CCR action shave your legs and get some carbon wheels... unfortunately it puts you at the top of the food chain so you better have some fire power on board. Still... every man and his dog wants some... lol.  Makes getting a recovery ride in very difficult.

I frequently add a riverloop in on my commute to work (50ks). The roadie's absolutely loathe it when I pass them, or hop onto the back of their peleton, when I am on my XC MTB, with full backpack, and mudguards.
One of life's pleasures. :D

Gawd Comedian. You need to get down the crit on Sunday Nov 6 and pick on someone your own age and size, at the Vault Crit. $30,000 in prize money up for grabs!!! Pity it is on the same time as the BMW ride. I'd really like on of their jerseys. It's not so much the speed, but where you are doing it. I can't imagine 40+ on the par of KBB you are talking about.

Incidentally, I had a PB max speed this morning. Three of us met Dave Alley to join him on his last 21km of his race around australia.
3 police car escort out front (dave's a policeman), 3 support vehicles, and 2 police car rear escort. (this is at 4am when all the crooks are sleeping)
Probably first and last time I'll ever ride a bike on the motor vehicle part of the Gateway and Houghton Hwy bridge. Anyway, the entourage gets to a traffic light turning red on the north end of the bridge. Most of it goes through, but there's 2 cars at 90 degrees with a green light champing at the bit, so I slow to a stop, and support vehicle and two police cars behind me do too. Hmmmmm...waiting waiting....no matter methinks...Dave's doing around 33...I'll catch him....green light and bang off I go. A short time later the entourage is one again. Later the police and support truck driver congratulate me on holding 55 for at least a minute. Last time I measured my max, it was 48 for around 30 seconds.

After all the celebrations and a chat with Dave, we head back to Bris, and meet the Tom Wallace Shop ride heading north 500 metres before their turn around, so 1km behind us. Surprisingly, we didn't see them again until post ride coffee on Shaw Rd. Must have been the SE headwind that slowed them.

Comedian - I am Southside, I'm one of the lucky ones with lots of bikeway to ride on. You'll probably kick my ass, but I won't give up without a fight and you'd really feel you earned your points, EVEN considering I am a girl (well, more like lady, but you know what I mean)! I think you are ready to start racing!
Like someone above, I also often wonder how far people have to go, if they come from a training ride, etc. That's why it's a silly thing, but it's also good training...
Not sure if this is part of the rules, didn't find it, but I think they omitted to say that looking back is strictly forbidden and it must never be allowed, it's a commuter race, not a proper race, you cannot show you're trying!

saw some funny CCR action this morning on the shared path - one guy passes another, other guy passes straight back, first guy keeps pulling out but thinks better of it. i was waiting for the argy bargy to begin but they stayed in control :)

Look... I'm having a flashback here. I remember doing a couple of cootha laps and a river loop one morning and seeing this young girl (dark hair) with a backpack on a mountain bike and thinking "wow... she's getting along". It's so long ago that I can't remember to many details but for it to stick in my mind means I was impressed. Don't know if it was you. :)

Well I suppose it may be if you have a good imagination :D . Yellow back pack, Red helmet, black specialized xc racing mountain bike?

Oh...forgot to mention (alzhiemers kicking in) - I'm 50, have short cropped grey hair, and I'm male so most likely not - last time I had long hair was 33 years ago and haven't had moobs for about 10 years now :D

On my commute in I will be doing the reverse loop around 5.30am getting into West End at 6.30am.

Well... I'm pretty sure it wasn't you then. Because I'm sure the rider was female and not male. Well maybe not 100% sure but I'm pretty good at spotting these things these days. :o

On the downside for you... there is probably a little girl out there who rides a MTB that could probably give you a run for your money.

Maate.. you know you can't count that - don't you? On a hybrid you are further up the chain than he is. By engaging him though he can count you! So that's a big -1.
