Eagle Junction to Brisbane CBD

Postby Hamster » Tue Nov 08, 2011 2:25 pm

Guys,

I've just scored myself a bike locker at Eagle Junction station so I'll be adding a new section to my regular commute.

Does anybody here do a similar commute into the CBD? Any advice on what would be a good route would be appreciated.
It would not be at all strange if history came to the conclusion that the perfection of the bicycle was the greatest achievement of the nineteenth century.

Ummm - from Eagle Junction into the CBD ?????

Any suggestions on a nice safe route that avoids the migatory trails of the dreaded cages.

The reasons are a long and involved story but the intended commute is:

bicycle (Avanti Hammer) from Redcliffe to Deagon Station
train from Deagon to Eagle Junction
bicycle (Repco Olympic 12) from Eagle Junction to work (Mary St in the CBD)
It would not be at all strange if history came to the conclusion that the perfection of the bicycle was the greatest achievement of the nineteenth century.

Hudson Burroughs Abbottsford is busier, but do-able in the morning. A bit iffy in the afternoon.

Dixon Bridge McDonald LeGeyt
LeGeyt has a pedestrian crossing across the train tracks.
There's several ways around Downey Park to Victoria Park Golf Course.

A safer but longer alternative via Kedron Brook, 12.17km (one which Ox was referring to)

versus
Abbottsford Rd 8.74km
LeGeyt Rd 9.79km

Of course distance won't be the primary factor. Time will be. and without traffic lights, Kedron Brook might be quite competitive.

Stick to St. Pauls Tce. and swing in towards the city (Barry pde --> Gotha st --> Ann St) after Brunswick st and you could cut that even shorter. SPT isn't too awful, and traffic in the city is usually congested enough that it's not an issue.

Heading the other way I'd say head out along wickham/breakfast ck. rd. & turn off back towards Abbottsford at Edmonstone St.

if you want low traffic take winston's long kedron brook route.
