New fixie/SS...
Postby Vishesh » Sat Nov 12, 2011 1:19 am
Im looking for a fixie/SS as mainly a commuting bike.
I originally started at $500 budget, but now am ok for $800 or so. I'll mainly use it for getting 3-5kms distance, to train stations and beach etc.
I basically want to get a good frame, as I know Ill wanna slowly do up the rest of the components in due time.
Any suggestions...?

Fuji classic track/feather. SE Lager. Masi's look OK too. Bike exchange is the place to look.

Masi Ultimate looks ok at $900 on special, but wouldn't it be better to get a Bianchi for similar price? What are they like?
SE Lager and Fuji I dont know their quality, but do seem good prices.
Should I bother with getting a lugged frame - what difference will it make?
How is the 2011 Felt curbside (the black/white/green one). I dont mind look of that?

Masi > Bianchi. Fuji have not really built a bad bike yet. SE moved out of building solid, high-end BMX back in the 80's, and know a thing or two about bikes.Vishesh wrote:Masi Ultimate looks ok at $900 on special, but wouldn't it be better to get a Bianchi for similar price? What are they like?

Only see the Curbside in pics, but it looks like a half-hearted response to the 'ride once a month urban fixed brigade' market.

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah I see what you mean re the Felt - I havet seen it in real life to judge its quality though.
I have seen the Masi Speciale - and was impressed with frame and component quality.
You saying Masi is better then Bianchi - why?
I dont mind the Fuji - but aernt they fixed only, and maybe no allowance for brakes?

Masi > Bianchi is mostly personal preference. The fork on the Masi looks nicer, Masi have a good knowledge of steel bikes, they have a more understated look, and they a little bit of rarity factor. I've been up close and personal with a few steel Masi's, and they're always great to ride.
Try to get a test ride on the bikes you're looking at. One of them will make you smile more, and that'll be the one to get.

Nah mate, it's only Reynolds Cro Mo if you do your research. And tig welded at that. a far cry from a lugged 531 frame.vaeske wrote:mmmm. speciale ultimate the light blue one? they are the bomb! reynolds 531 tubing goodness.

bahhhh what a let down...that is really dissapointing. i'd rather spend that money on a decent vintage track frame. Anyone have a '83 masi pista?? Converted roadframe, painted silver lugs, you could build better with an old road frame yourself.the grid wrote:Anyone had a look at these?
