Give Sydney a visit sometime
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Is the velodrome for the 2018 Commonwealth games?

Lets just hope that they do not place too many restrictions or too high a cost on use of the new facility.
And hopefully while they are building the new facility they will also update the current one.

And lets just hope that it gets more people interested.
For all the excitement about the new facility I see, I also see that the Omnium last weekend was shortened to be a 1 day event rather than the 2 days it was originally promoted as.
Apparently there was not enough numbers to need the extra day of competition(?).

It's going to be built at Chandler Mike.

What is this Omnium you speak of Sumgy? :?

Thanks Sumgy!

Didn't have this when I was racing and the one thing I am noticing with who ever is running Qld Cycling at the moment is................................................................. they have no bloody idea of promoting it.

Exactly my point.
Mind you I would say the same about most cycling events that are held.
Unless you either see it on your club's website or personally go looking you dont have a clue what events are on.
However it does seem worse with track.

While we are at it, do you know that there are races at Chandler every Tuesday night and (I believe) at Nerang every Friday?

So that's Brissie. I thought it was Gold Coast that had the games? Or is it being spread between Brissie and Gold Coast?

I seem to recall having read that the basketball is being held in Townsville??

They may as well have held the basketball in Auckland.

No I didn't Sumgy but Tuesday nights are out of the question for me anyway, even as a spectator. I get up at 4am for work and don't get home until after 5pm. :(

Mike the track racing will be Brissy but I don't know where the road race will be.

Did hear a rumour that due to the commonwealth games "distance from the athletes village" rule, that perhaps the velodrome may not be built at Chandler.

Cant see why the Basketball would be held in townsville and this does contradict the rumour.

Also yes Nerang track is on friday nights and being run very well by someone very passionate about the sport, and the rider and spectator numbers are showing it!

According to the Official Site, it's going to Chandler. Hard to see that much money being committed to anywhere but Brisbane, especially given that more thought is given to what happens in "legacy" phase after these big events these days.
WHere is the village ? It's only a quick blast up the M1 from the GC.
I think they are trying to spread teh love around the state too, which is probably why the basketball will be in Townsville.

I'm hoping the building of the new track will be an opportunity for track racing to grow back to its rightful place. I was having a tidy up the other weekend and found a programme from a major event at Chandler in 1990... the sheer number of riders competing was impressive, let alone some of the names - several former, current and future Australian champions, a fair smattering of europeans (Tony Doyle, "Aussie Bob" Rasenberg, a few others I can't think of at the moment), even some young (not long out of the junior ranks) guy called R McEwen who I seemed to recall did ok on the night. There was even a nearly-full main grandstand of spectators, similar crowds as when they had the "Night Of Champions" featuring Martin Vinnicombe, Gary Niewand and Stephen Pate. And all in the days when there was no internet to find out what was on......

Yep there were some good meets there, back in the 80/90s and I loved my track racing. 8)
