Oh man, the Rolls is such an awesome looking saddle. I love the gold plate at the back and on the side. It adds class and elegance. Only thing is that if I buy one then the colour of the leather won't match the grips. It's not a huge deal but it would be sweet to have it all uniform and it would be cool to try to give an old saddle a new lease on life. Might write up a WTB ad as suggested.

I'm looking at getting:
- Wheelset Velocity B43's in bright silver, radial laced front
- Shimano SF-1200 Freewheel 18 tooth for 1/8" chain
- Shimano Dura Ace Track Cog 16 tooth for 1/8" chain
- Shimano Dura Ace NJS Track Cog Lockring
- KMC Gold Track Chain 1/8"

All up, including postage, it's will to cost about $350. I'm going to source handle bars and head set from a local store. I will also use an existing crankset, brakes, saddle and stem but will be looking to upgrade as the wallet permits. Wiggle has a pair for about of Miche brakes for $28 that seem to be alright, from what I've read about them. Any suggestions for some good websites?
I also got my b43s from Ben at velomine. Got him to build them up on miche primato hubs in a radial front and 3cross rear pattern and was really happy with the result.

You should consider one of the new San Marco vintage saddles. They have remade some of their classics such as the rolls, concor and regal and they are so close to the originals that you could barely tell if they we reside by side. I just bought a black suede concor and it looks the part and is very comfy, not to mention superbly built.

Here Is the lineup: http://www.sellesanmarco.it/en/Vintage/ ... Regal.html

I bough mine on chain reaction. Between $70 and $90.

I ended up buying that second hand San Marco Rolls for 15 bones. I'm liking the used/vintage look of it but I have decided to try to restore it. I've seen a few people restore them so it seems possible. Will have to source some leather and new rivets as I will have to drill them out. The main thing that I'm a bit bummed about is that when I polish the metal, it will loose all the gold colour, which works so well with the look that I'm going for. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether it's possible to get it gold plated cheaply somewhere, or something? If not, it will still look awesome if it's chrome though. See pics below for the current condition of the saddle. I must say, it has been well loved.

Went for a ride out to Boondal Wetlands and took heaps of wicked photos with my bro's DSLR camera, got home and all the files were corrupted  Typical
Only had a few on my crappy point and shoot and will post them below for those of you who are interested. Other than that, bike is pretty much finished. Just need to reupholster the saddle and make some leather grips and toe straps. All in good time.

You'll probably want fatter tyres to get across that marsh. :D

Very nice colour & detailing... and well documented for others... thanks for sharing. Now enjoy the ride! :)

Restored the saddle this week. Turned out really well. I figured I'd post it in 'The Shed' so if you want to see the whole process go here. Here are a few photos of the finished product.

Reviving an old thread here. Love the transformation! What tyres did you fit on this Olympic? Are 28mm too tight? Cheers

Can't remember. It's been a while. I'm actually trying to sell it as I haven't used it in a bit.

My partner has an Olympic 12 with 25c tyres, there's definitely no room for anything more than 25c in the fork (very close under the crown) without doing something like spacing the axle down in the dropout. The back would fit 28c but not more, 28 would come pretty close to the brake bridge. I think it's a 1987/88 model, quite a large size, Giant made (I think Repco used a couple of different manufacturers??).

Edit to add: My partner's Olympic 12 has a lugged fork crown, different to the one in this thread, so this information might not be useful.
