STCC

Postby doggatas » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:21 am

Hi Guys

Any information on how/when to join the STCC, formerly STVCC and how to order some kit. Given I wont be playing footy next year, I like the fact of being part of a club/team.

Cheers
David

To join the club you can either do it online through the CA website, or the easiest way is just rock up to one of the races on Sunday and they have the forms you can fill out there then pay either cheque or cash.

Can't remember off my head but cost is $140ish. found link with details http://www.stvcc.asn.au/Info.html

Race schedule is found at the bottom of the home page and sizing samples are available to check this sunday.

Gonna pack my bike in the car and leave it at the airport, I fly back into Hobart at 8:45 on Sunday, hoping to make it to Richmond for the Richmond to Stockdale and return. Where is Stockdale by the way? trying to find it on google maps to make sure there isn't a massive hill.

17.5km from Richmond FC. Some undulations that can hurt a little, but no big hill.

No we dont Barry! There is Cole Hill, Brinktop, Grass Tree, Hell of the South, all the routes have at least one hill in them. Only really Brinktop can you climb away from the group and it doesnt finish in a sprint.

Do you have to be over 30 to race?

I think what master6 is trying to say is that those over 30 are too old to climb hills :P

Not exactly.
In fact, not at all.

A bit cranky this morning master6

Might need to take your meds, don't want to upset your heart.

Yeah anyway Barry, come along to the STCC races they are good fun, also with the ride in and home again you are getting a 100+km ride out for the day. You would easily sit in C grade, possibly even hold on withe B grade even.

Dogga, I forgot to mention the STCC club is a 30+ (masters). So you need to be 30 or over to join, however, some of our races are open so the open (elite) ages can race. The thing is you would need to join an open club to get a license, so that would be the Hobart Wheelers or a Northern based club. Don't let that put you off, as I mentioned a lot of the STCC races have started allowing opens as there is no other racing in Hobart available. Best to contact the club officials to find out the details.

Start running races some time other than Sunday morning and I'll be more likely to be able to make it. I don't have any illusions about my racing ability -- I have yet to win anything, and my time is limited so I can only make occasional races, so I probably won't win anything (commitment? nah)

Do you wonder why the racing scene here is so moribund? Get over yourselves and make all the races open. Stop trying to protect the veteran prima donnas to the cost of all other riders.

They are trying, they have opened a lot of them up.

Also it isn't up to the STCC to conduct the open races, that is the Wheelers domain. We had a meeting a while back to discuss making the STVCC an open club, there was some disapproval from some of the vets, however, the wheelers were not keen on the idea either. Yet they also stated that they are not going to organise any open road races.

Sometimes "yes". Sometimes "no".

Have a look at this link from Cycling Australia setting out licence categories:-

http://www.cycling.org.au/?ID=44032

To become a member of STCC you need to qualify, as per the above link, to buy a Masters licence.
This means that you must have been born in 1982 or earlier to obtain a masters licence in 2012.
This means that you can join STCC as a member on or after January 1 of the year in which you turn 30. The youngest possible age to join would be 29 years and one day if your birthday was 31/12.

STCC conducts a lot of racing which is restricted to riders holding Masters licences. STCC also conducts some racing designated "Open", which means people with an "Elite" category licence can compete. That means people under 30. (I am not going into the "junior" area here, such as u17 and younger)

The STCC site includes a calendar of races, and it is colour coded to indicate "masters only" events, as distinct from "open"events. "Open" events are colour coded purple.

Do not be confused by the recent change in name from STVCC to STCC. This was a name change only, and did not change anything else.

Let me know if I have not answered the question satisfactorily.

.There is a club in town to cater for people with an Elite grade licence. Have you considered attending one of Hobart Wheelers meetings to help them get racing organised?
