Se draft coaster

Postby the grid » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:25 am

Hi I really would love this bike for shorter commutes. I was wondering if you removed the front brake whether it would still be pretty safe to ride with the coaster brake alone? I guess there are plenty of people riding fixed with no lever brakes.

Thanks in advance

Sorry is sold in Australia with front brake
$349 RRP Goldcross.
Would look sweet with no front brake
I guess if you dropped the chain ...... might need the front brake

For the same coin, I,ve seen cromo mongoose on BE. Drafts for as low as $249 a while back.

Edit, it was draft lite that I saw that price,at clearance time last year.

wait until you see the price of the girlie jeans that go with it.
bike shops could make a fortune if they do the complete hipster package - bike, jeans, tshirt, glasses, bag

Um just buying the bike for riding not a fashion statement. The simplicity is the attraction ... don't live in the big smoke so don't need to worry about being hip.

Hell yeah, FWIW , I ride brakeless fixed now, and rode many years of my child hood with a rear coaster only. Lose a chain in either permutation and you just stick ya foot between the seat tube and rear wheel and sacrifice a shoe sole in the name of braking.

1st week report
Frame a bit short for me so may change to bullhorns
Coaster brake can be touchy and lock up at speed ? needs a bit of use.
Otherwise quite good fun.
I have been riding about 18k return to the beach and loving the simplicity
Also seem to get a better workout then geared bike.
I sat watching the surf this morning then rode about 3k toward home feeling great then realised it was because I'd left my helmet on the park bench doh!

I remember posting on a site about 2 years ago that coaster brake bikes would be the next thing due to their simplicity and they're just bloody good fun to ride. I remember always stealing my sisters BMX because it had a coaster brake and I do the best slide outs with it. Her BMX was something dad restored for her and was metallic dark green. Not pink in case you thought I rode around on a pink bike with tassels and spokey doks or what ever they were called :)
I read an article on this model on urbanvelo. Good to see that the manufacturers are getting into coaster brake bikes.

I can't see why you can't ride without a front brake with a coaster rear, how many of us used to ride around as kids with that same setup and I never had a drama with it.

Yeah it is fun to ride and skid though its very touchy at times. I actually re-installed the front brake for use on bike paths when you need more subtle braking. I am not sure if coaster brakes can be adjusted at all to reduce the sensitivity.
Its also a bugger at intersections when you can't back pedal to get the pedal in the right position to take off.

Time to ditch the coaster, man up and go fixed.
