18Dec - 40km time-trial

Postby DarrylH » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:36 pm

In case anyone missed it there is a 40km time-trial on 18th Dec on Parkes Way. The road will be closed so it should be a good ride.

There's talk of the organisers running a 20km race to encourage people to come along as there hasn't been many entries so far (probably due to lack of publicity). Not sure if this shorter race will be instead of or in addition to the 40km race.

Well, I've entered - might even bolt the go-faster bars back on the old steel Peugeot and give it a run. Be nice to be able to do a good fast 40kms on closed roads without any hills.

Did the 40km in 1hr 15min on the 20 year old steelie. Was a good ride with Parkes Way closed but those slight rises seemed like Mt Ainslie on the last lap. There is another one on in January.

Just noticed a few rides posted on Garmin Connect.

Bike was still in pieces this morning so didn't get out to it. Managed to get it back together for a ride this afternoon though. Jan ITT sounds good :)

I did this as well, I borrowed some tt bars and some race wheels and they seemed to make a difference. I had a leak in the front tyre though and as time went on it was getting softer and softer, there was about 60psi in it at the finish. I finished my first lap with an average speed of 40kmh, but faded a bit on the second and third lap (I blame that front tyre :P ). Finished up 11th in 1:03:18 according to the results (although the garmin says 1:01:50, so I'll take that :D )

I tossed up doing the TT but decided to enter the full Olympic Triathlon that was run earlier in the day.

I had one of those rare days where everything went unbelievably well - after a personal best 1,500 swim I reeled off a 1:04:41 (@37.1kmh) for the 40k bike leg over the same TT course. Could have gone quicker as it was my first go at a "flying mount" with the shoes already attached to the bike. I managed to avoid crushing the family jewels but after 400 metres I was still fumbling trying to get my bloody feet into the shoes! Once up to speed it was all good, hitting 38kmh average at the 25k mark before easing back in preparation for the 10k run.

The most astounding thing was in fact the run in which I recorded my fastest ever 10k at 43:39. All in all it was a 17 minute PB on last year so there is clearly alot to be said for shedding weight and training exclusively at 75-85 per cent of max heart rate (rather than the 65 to 75 per cent of past years).

I can't help you with that, the organisers might be able to.

Yeah that's how it looked to me to - was only interested in doing a time trial. :(

All good

Rules me out - don't want to spend $125 on a CA licence for just one event. Just bought a new bike, so was hoping for another TT.
