I'm going to aim for 12K this year, although that could change if the GLW goes back to work. It's a leap year too, so that extra day could make all the difference

As a techno-wiz, I can report that Bike Journal is still not allowing 2012 goals to be set, no doubt because it's not 2012 yet in the US. Give it about 8 hours if Bike Journal is East coast, or 11 if it's West Coast.
Awesome work for your first year mate, welcome aboard and I'll watch my rear wheel for you :D

:D First ride of the year this morning, a very warm but beautiful 127k, another ride tomorrow but it will have to be an early one with the temp due to be 40 degrees... Gotta love summer eh.

I'm going to have a shot at 20, all bets are off if I buy a TT bike as I'll have to get as much riding on it as possible.

What would I do with myself if I didn't ride??? My son has grown up & long gone, wifey & I don't share any interests, so basically all I have is riding. Na don't feel bad for me, wifey had a heart attack 2 years ago, a few friends around the same age have had as well. I gave up smoking 2 years ago but still can't manage to get under 100kgs (yeah I do like my food), I'd like to live quite a few more years.

I changed jobs mid-year, this one is a government one, so generally I work 4 days a week & have very little stress anymore. And the Pan-Pac Masters games are on the Gold Coast this year & they've added cycling to the events.

Have a day off???? I have 4 of them a week (when I'm at work).

Did you see that someone has logged 5000 kms already, geez I only rode from Brissie down over the border & back, at his rate I'll have to retire & ride back & forwards to Sydney constantly.

Go for it WAL42! A change of life is your own personal business! Others can choose to follow if motivated....my wife has followed me to a small degree & I respect her for it. She rode to the Hopman Cup this arvo and I'm home cleaning bikes and drinking beer....oh and occasionally on the forums whilst drinking beer. (I hope this post isn't censored as 'non family friendly')

I have a vague feeling the 5000 may be a typo :|

Have just set my goal at 18000km.
I plan to do more running in 2012 than I did in 2011 but I don't think that'll impact too much on my total cycling k's (I hope).
Good luck to everyone with their 2012 targets.
May the banter begin....... :P
Only 17k target Tim? You got a big holiday planned????

Ok, I've upped my goal by 25% to 12,500km. We'll see how it pans out! I am hoping in 2012 to find some time for Audax rides, but having a young family means weekend time is taken up by other tasks. So, I may just have to extend some of my commutes.

Hi Everyone,
Just signed up and set myself up on Bike Journal with a target of 10,000kms. I'm currently off the bike after a shoulder operation and can only do home trainer sessions until Monday 23rd January so you will all get a good head start on me.
Hopefully my green bar will appear after midnight tonight as I think I have done everything correctly.
BTW - sorry for the misleading user name, I'm Andrew (married to the Gabrielle!) and am Melbourne based.

10K PLUS club 2012

Postby gabrielle260 » Mon Jan 02, 2012 10:04 pm

Thanks Dave! I'm in Glen Iris and typically ride down Warragul Rd to get to the bay or along High Street Rd to get to the Dandenongs. Like many I have kids and on weekends have to take them to their sport so I will need to extend my workday commute to meet my goal of 10k.
It's a shame km's on the home trainer don't count. For the last 4 days I have been doing sessions whilst still wearing the sling... but I miss riding my bike! Guess I really am a cycling tragic!

Well here is me attempting 10k again, in theory if I do 3x commutes a week at 56km each & 100km ride on Sat will put me over the line smoothly.

Last year I couldn't get into a good rhythm. Started the year with in an air boot till Feb then started to build up and April comes around and my lower back goes. 4 weeks off and start to get back into it and TDF starts up which makes it harder still and then in July comes the nasty boil. August comes along and I'm going .... boil I'm riding!!! That same ride coming home I crash and stuff up my shoulder requiring a cortisone shot and I've had 2 in it now ARRGH. 2 days before I'm sposed to go on tour my lower back goes on me again  That killed any chance of the tour from Perth - Sydney and my lack of training thanks to mentioned boil and crash killed that tour, it seems like it was never fated to happen.

Still managed to get a Perth - Esperance tour in after my lower back recovered. 10 weeks after that happens my lower back goes on me again, hmmm clubagreenie recommended me to a chiro. Went to them and they have sorted out my back issue and I'm going to be starting up Pilates this year to address that issue.

The only thing I'm worried about this year slowing me down is my shoulder reoffending again but my Bacchetta Giro 26 should work around that issue thanks to being bent and no pressure on shoulder till it's fixed. The one that I'm really concerned about is the potential Carpal Tunnel Syndrome I have, but that is not confirmed yet, I've got a bunch of Ganglion cysts on the underside of my wrists which I'm attempting to get sorted out which is putting pressure on my carpal tunnel. But doc needs to test for CTS

I've nominally put down 14,000 for this year and am in the process of putting a plan together to work towards the G2I. Looks like I'll be be spending more time at the pointy end of the bunch rather than bludging :(

Soooo... is there an accepted etiquette with length of rides that are counted? E.g.: I just did an 11km ride (round trip) into town and back... wearing sandals.
