Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsRe: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsAll of you racers .. you think YOU ride a decent saddle to stem drop? THIS is a drop ..
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market finds
uh huh....... Andrew
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsRiding home this arvo I come across a bike lying on the path. Apollo Eclipse, I'm guessing it was a garage sale reject as the price tag of $8- on the stem was texta'd over and it had "free" written on both sides of the top tube. A call to the local plod for advice suggested it was mine in two weeks. Low end gaspipe methinks with no hanger and very low end bits but the hubs and 700c rims look reasonable. I'll strip it down eventually and see what comes of it. Might get a beer bike out of it.

Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsI've had good results with autosol and steel wool, followed by a wipe down with a clean rag .. and a bit of wax or silicone spray to ward off rust.
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsThanks for that, I'll give it a go soon.

Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsGood stuff. I found it worked pretty well for about 6 months until the bike got rained on one day
What sort of bike was it? I built up an Apollo Delta II for my brother recently with Ultegra 9 speed and some deep V Rigida rims on 105 hubs and it cranked along, and was just under 11kg with pedals. Really nice bike (700C spacing and proper geometry) although it was only 4130 Cr Mo plain gauge, I certainly don't descriminate anymore if the frame is of reasonable geometry (ie no long head tubes and lazy angles), the right size and has forged drop outs. We're both 6'5" so finding cast off frames in our size is hard Could be a fun build!
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsIf anyone is in Canberra I was just at the tip shop and there was a Raleigh 'lady' I think with 531 tubes, he wanted $50 and I don't think I would ever ride i, so i left it there but it might be nice for someone's lady friend?

Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsNot sure its retro judging from the components, but what is this little bike I scored from the tip shop?

Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsWow, dual suspension, internal gears and foldable? very interesting.
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsWow! Excellent find in a Moulton. There is probably a whole thread for Moulton fans. Google it
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsIts made really well, its engineered like a bridge, although the piece that connects the two sides together has come off and needs to be brazed on again. Worth doing?
Thanks Koen, ill have a look [EDIT] ebay uk has the exact same bike for sale but in much better condition http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Moulton-Pashley-Landrover-APB-Unisex-Bike-Mint-Condition-Separable-/300643385088?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item45ffbdff00

Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsHow the heck anyone would throw that away is beyond me!!! If you ever want to sell that @peachy you will get some interest on here. Wish it was a cool racing green colour though...and a Land Rover ltd edn too.

Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsI'd never heard of the name until I read about Alex Moulton, didnt realise there is such a following. The frame needs to be repaired. Thanks for the help, cant believe my luck
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsPeachy, check out Rifraf's signature... "Moulton Landrover APB".
Interesting use of the hub gears and derailleur. Didn't know that.
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market finds
Great find Peachy - I'm envious as hell They're a bit on the heavy side but offer a comfy ride. You want a very competent frame builder for that repair. I'm sure someone could do it. Once you've gone Moulton, not many return ![]() ![]() Last edited by rifraf on Tue Jan 03, 2012 4:54 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Moulton Landrover APB
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market finds
That was the 2nd colour option. Only Yellow or British Racing Green Moulton Landrover APB
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market finds
Wow! that looks the business! Id love to ride it but just dont have the time and money to get it repaired. I might flip it on flea bay. Thanks rifraf
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market finds
Appreciate hearing about it if you do as I may be in a position to bid myself. Spare frame parts would be fairly rocking horse dropping like these days considering the bike is of around 13 years old. What State is the bike situated in? If you decide to keep it yourself and need any info, just drop me a line anytime and I'll try to see you right with what ever info you need. The NSW Moulton dealer is Clarrance Street Cycles but I get the feeling that they dont know much about the product (which is fair enough as they only got the dealership recently). I've sent you a message.
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market findsRifraf, was I right about the gears? If so, how many ratios does it have?
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market finds
Moulton Landrover APB
Re: Hard Rubbish/Flea market finds
Hi Stuey, yes it utilises an internal hub - 3 speed. It has a single chainring on the cranks and a seven speed cassette. 21 speed in all for the Landrover. The newer model APB came with 24 and the latest incarnation (TSR27) has 27 Moulton Landrover APB
