Steel Fixy Frame

To keep me out of the pub and give me somnething to do in Syney I am looking for a steel fixy frame.

Are you based/ looking for a frame in Melbourne or Sydney? What sort of size/ era/ style?

I bounce between Sydney and Melbourne thats why I have bikes in both. Working week is spent in Sydney and every 3rd week or so I go home to Melbourne so Sydney is preferrable.

Frame sizes?? god knows I am 186cm and something that is a 531, 753 or columbus steel frame that I can play with would be good.

I have a Blucher Koln bike that i am selling.
Its a triple butted steel frame from the 80's at a guess.
58cm top tube, 63cm seat tube.
Has most of the parts with it, r/derailleur, cranks, campy wheels.

I am looking for a steel track fram with horizontal drop outs. I already have rims so need hubs and other bits.

You are probably correct I will answer each in turn

Size: I am 180ish cm's and something to fit this

End result : Single speed fitted to a track frame or similar with a flip/flop ?? rear wheel

What will i do : Ride it around city and commute to shops etc

Wher am I : I am in Sydney until end of year althouh home is melbourne I am up here on contract so Sydney would be best.

that bike looks like death on a stick, I'm sorry.

It's a converted road frame and those Vitus were the early bonded aluminium frames I believe, similar to Alan. A good number of them came apart because the glue (bonding) failed. As for drilled handlebars - can you say "multiole stress risers"?

I wouldn't ride it down to the shop.

The search continues as I have too much time on my hands sitting at home this week. This may be a contender for my build.

I am not worried about the paint as I will strip and have Paconi paint and remove the paint bosses but is the 110mm rear stay a problem.

Any thoughts on this one for my project

The last frame you linked to is a roadster. I have several of these you can have for free, dont buy one.

If you are based near the inner city area, best bet would be to go see the guys at www.bikeclub.wordpress.com They are a great bunch and I am sure they would have something there of interest to you.

My Miyata 110 frame is a base steel road model, but it is a Miyata, it's large, and it might be suitable. It's also in Melbourne !

If you are just starting out in the game, I would imagine a more generic track frame would be easier to find parts for or a conversion of a nice basic road frame would give you the flexibility to ride fixed/brakes/brakeless/geared ss. As long as you get the horizontal rear drops you are away a few examples would be:


it sold on ebay for $117-lthe other day
it was a reynolds 525 frame and you have everything you need pretty much, maybe just re dish the back wheel depending on hub body
change the chain ring bolts to fit single chain ring, work on chain line and you are away.

Anyway that is what I would do, a good quality frame, fairly good bits and half the work is already done for you..... or ... if you only want the frame, you could prob seel the parts and re coup some $.
