For those riding Monday in the Amy ride see you there. Dont forget to drink plenty of water !! For everyone else catch you next Saturday at the new earlier start time of 7am at Degani's. Colin.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHi guys with the predicted 40 degree day Monday Luke and I are thinking of taking the shorter 70km loop option. We will make a call on the day subject to the weather but the ride starts and travels the same route before spliting for the shorter 70k and longer ride 120k ride.
Catch you in the morning Colin.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesi was thinking of not doing it at all due to the heat, but the 70km might be a good option.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend rides
I replied to snark in this thread 'Amy's Ride Geelong 2012' viewtopic.php?f=14&t=47978 regarding the ride tomorrow. It would be good to meet you guys if you make it down, so feel free to say g'day. My avatar is my leg, and I'm bib #975. I am changing jobs shortly into the new year, so hopefully I won't have to work Saturday's, and can possibly get in extra rides, including a few up your away. Anyway, best of luck, and have a good ride tomorrow. Cheers, John. ![]()
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend rideslook like the 120k isn't an option anymore unless you signed on to the quick groups.
120km ride The 120km route will be available for riders registered in speed groups of 30-34km/hr or 35+km/hr ONLY. Our concern for every participant’s safety includes minimizing ‘riding time’ to 4 hours or less when in extreme heat. For this reason and for the safety of riders, the 120km route is no longer available to riders registered in speed groups 25-29km, 20-24km/hr and under 20km/hr. All riders registered in the 120km ride in these speed groups are advised to participate in the 70km ride and have been reallocated accordingly. Riders may not be supported by the event organisation if they participate in the 120km ride on the basis of these revised arrangements.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHi guys 120km has been cancelled due to the heat so 70km option it is. Meet you all ealry in Geelong. Colin.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHow did we all go today ? Glad Luke and I chose the shorter distance the heat was getting near 40 degrees coming back towards Geelong. I completed the 70km ride in 2hr 15minutes Luke just a bit over 2hr 30 minutes. How did the rest of you all finish up ?
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHi All,
Just got back on the bike and enjoying cycling again. Live in Sanctaury Lakes My ave speed is 25kph and distances are around the 50km mark at this point. Do any of the group rides cover this distance or are they all 80km plus ? Don't want to hold the group up !!!! Would be good to meet and ride with a few locals. Regards Jeff
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesDoes anyone commute into the CBD from the Point Cook area?
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesJeffa32, don't worry about the speed, by jumping in the middle or back of the group, you'll get pulled along alright. Most Sat rides average about 50 -65km, occassionaly they will tip over the 80Km mark. The longer rides are normally planned in advance. We always stop for a coffee and chat at the half way point so there is plenty of time to recover. Come along on Sat 7.00am at Degani's PCTC and meet the lad's. All good blokes with varying cycling ability - No one gets left behind.

Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHi Jeffa, you are more than welcome to join us if you wish we average around 28-32 km per hour most weekends depending on the head winds. The regular trip to Williamstown and back for coffee is 65km. You are more than welcome to tag along and if need be turn back a little earlier if the speed or distance is to quick for you.
We depart Degani Coffee Shop 7am sharp every Saturday. See you there. Colin.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHi Jeffa,
I'm also from Sanctuary Lakes so if you like we could ride to Point Cook Town Centre together. i won't be around this Saturday but will definitely in the coming Saturdays. btw.. if i can keep up on most saturdays then i'm sure you will most likely be able to keep up. riding becomes a lot easier when you're riding in a group. Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesThanks for the replies.
I am away this weekend but will look to meet up for a ride on the 14th Jan cheers Jeff
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend rides
I might see about coming to join you guys some time. I'm in Caroline Springs at the moment, and Google Maps puts my ride into Point Cook at almost exactly 20KM which doesn't sound too bad!
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHi David the more the better. We have a new rider recently join our group who drives from caroline springs for our rides on Saturday's and another who drives from Lara so there is some committed travelers.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend rides
My house is currently being built in Saltwater Coast (should be done by March with any luck!) and I'm planning on commuting to North Melbourne once I move down. I've done the ride a couple of times, it's a touch under an hour if you don't have a blasting headwind and reasonable traffic.
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend rides
Driving? That's blasphemy isn't it!?! Anyways ... I'm still very new to this whole cycling caper, so it might take me a little while yet to reach the point where I'd be able to mix it with you guys. I'll get there though ...
Re: Point Cook (Melb) weekend ridesHi guys whose in tomorrow 7am departure. Regards Colin.
