Magpies already?

Magpies already?

I couldn't believe it when I was swooped by a magpie this morning - Swap Road, Piccadilly SA. Would that be the first of the 2012 season or the last of the 2011 season?

The heat leading to increased competition for food and water? Even the sparrows in our backyard have become pushy.
