Been pumping out the kms during my break, 700km in 8 days, almost glad to come back to work for the rest...I said almost...

Had a nice break over xmas. Mostly running and swimming training but took the MTB away and hit the trails of the Orbost State Forest.
Santa got my 4 year old a new (bigger) bike and conveniently forgot the training wheels. After the intial look of horror, the little bloke jumped on and after a few wobbles with dad running beside he was off. By the end of day 2, he had successfully conquered the Orbost BMX track (the small jumps and berms at least), and clocked up dozens of laps of the local oval to be stopped only by mum who didn't want us riding in the dark!
I'm currently trying to get him interested in hill repeats and intervals!

I'd heard that ride was on and wondering if you were doing it, well done!mrgolf wrote:Pretty happy. The guys I ride with organise a 350km odyssey every January and I did it today. Canberra - Yass - Crookwell - Gouburn - Bungendore - Canberra with stops at each town for refuelling. 350kms, 3445m climb, 30.3kmh average. Spent a fair bit of time on the front, too. Bunch was 9 strong for the first 220 and 7 strong for the remainder. Previous longest ride was 165kms. Gruelling. I was very pleased I didn't hit the wall and rode the last hundred strongly with plenty of energy.

That's no good, I had an achilles problem a couple of years ago and I was off the bike for a couple of months, it was about 6 months before it was fully resolved. I did a lot of strength work on that leg (and the other one), mostly eccentric calf raises (concentrating on the lowering phase of the exercise), and that seemed to sort it out.mezla wrote:I'm jealous of all you guys at the moment. I'm hamstrung... Achilles problem (I've checked and adjusted my cleat positioning, but that's not the problem). Slowly getting better, hope to be doing more than commuting again soon.

Last week quiet due to hols in East Gippsland, but we did a couple of rides including almost 100km out & back from Orbost on the rail trail one day. Week before last did a 165km circuit with almost 2,800m of climbing, from Duffy via Uriarra Crossing, Cotter, Tidbinbilla & Tuggeranong, with diversions to: top of Mt Stromlo; end of bitumen (eob) at the NSW border above Uriarra; eob above Condor Ck; Tidbinbilla Tracking Station; Tidbinbilla nature park loop; and the national park entrance at Corin Forest (see: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/137169311 ).

This morning 9x Red Hills, with a smart @rse comment from Mr Golf's teamate (John) who rode past as I was getting ready to start the 9th "Do another 10" . Put your money where your mouth is next time John, and lead by example!
